Kazimierz Porębski (b. November 15, 1872 in Vilna - January 21, 1933 in Warsaw, Poland) was a Polish vice-admiral.
Porebski's military career started in the Russian Navy, where he served in the position of a rear-admiral. After Poland regained its independence, he became the first commander-in-chief of the Polish Navy.
Russian Navy Career
Porebski (Казимир (Казимеж) Адольфович Порембский) entered the Imperial Russian Navy in 1889 and graduated as a midshipman in 1892
- 1895-1899 sered aboard the Dmitrii Donskoi
- 1899-1901 served aboard the Pamiat Azova
- 1901-1905 served aboard the Novik fighting in the Russo Japanese war
- 1906-1909 served with the Baltic Fleet commanding the cruiser Admiral Makarov in 1909
- 1909-1913 commanded the Minelayer Enisei
- 1914 commanded the Rostislav
- 1914-1916 commanded the Imperatritsa Mariya
- 1916 promoted to Rear admiral commanding the cruiser squadron of the Black Sea Fleet
Polish Navy Career
In 1918 he founded the "Bandera Polska" (Polish jack) association. In 1920 he initiated the opening of the Navy School in Tczew and the purchasing of the training sailing-ship "Lwów". He was also the first one who proposed and presented projects of expansion of the Polish fleet and the military harbor in Gdynia.
He died on January 21, 1933 in Warsaw and was buried in the Powązki Military Cemetery.
