Justine Thornton (born 1969) is a former child actress known for her appearance in Dramarama (TV series) and Hardwicke House.

Thornton studied in Cambridge University has excelled in law, she went on to specialise in environmental law. She is variously described as “intelligent, thorough, enthusiastic and pleasant” and “charming and highly committed”. Last year’s Legal 500, the lawyers’ directory, simply called her “first class”.

Career

Shortly before starting at university, she acted in the long-running children’s show Dramarama, alongside Wil Johnson, who is currently starring in Waterloo Road. Thornton starred as Erica, the out-of-control schoolgirl in the hour-long pilot episode called The Visit in Hardwicke House, a controversial ITV sitcom that had to be pulled from the schedules in 1987 following a backlash over its content.

Following her acting career, Thornton became an environmental lawyer. A former Allen and Overy environmental barrister, she is now at 39 Essex Street

Personal life

Thornton's partner is the Labour party leader Ed Miliband. Miliband has described Thornton as his "best counsel".

They met in 2004, and live together in North London. The couple were engaged in March 2010, and intend to marry in May 2011.

They have two sons – Daniel Miliband, born 2009, and Samuel Miliband, born 2010.
