Since moving to New York City three years ago, twenty-nine year old playwright Qui Nguyen has been making a mark on the fringes of New York theatre with his group, Vampire Cowboys Theatre Company, whose productions, penned and choreographed by Nguyen, have performed to sold-out audiences at the New York International Fringe Festival, been published nationally in PLAYS AND PLAYWRIGHTS 2005, enjoyed extended runs throughout the nation, and nominated for awards in movement & fight direction. Critics of the young writer have boasted:

“Nguyen’s scripts are quick-witted and quick on the draw.” – BACKSTAGE

“The writing is consistently clever, graceful, and provocative.” – LA WEEKLY

“A reminder of what’s best about theatre!” – CHICAGO READER

In 2004, Qui was recognized as one of NYTheatre.com’s People of the Year, as well as awarded a commission from Ma-Yi Theatre and the Jerome Foundation. He currently is a co-director of the Ma-Yi Writers Lab, a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Youngblood Playwrights Group, and the the Artistic Director of Vampire Cowboys Theatre.

As a playwright, Qui's plays include the Off-Broadway production of TRIAL BY WATER (Ma-Yi Theater/Queens Theatre in the Park); VCTC productions of LIVING DEAD IN DENMARK; VAMPIRE COWBOY TRILOGY (published in PLAYS & PLAYWRIGHTS 2005); STAINED GLASS UGLY; A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO DEICIDE. Other plays include BIKE WRECK(Metropolitan Playhouse); STAND UP ABSURDITY (Wing & Groove Theatre of Chicago); SLICING ANDRE (Ensemble Studio Theatre's OctoberFest); and ALL IN THE MIMING (Vital Theatre/Lady Cavaliers).
