Mara Clara is a Philippine family primetime television drama which aired on ABS-CBN. It is a remake is based on the 1992 original television series of the same name. Kathryn Bernardo was cast in the role of Mara, with Julia Montes as Clara. Mara Clara was nominated at the 2011 BANFF World TV Awards, also known as “The Rockies”.

Mara Clara is a remake of the 1992 television series, Mara Clara an adapted novel and serial of Emil Cruz Jr. produced by ABS-CBN. In 1996, the original TV series was adapted into a film where the whole cast reprised their role except for Eruel Tongco's character Gary Davis who was played by William Martinez in the movie due to Tongco's death. In August 2010, ABS-CBN announced that they have decided to remake the television series with Kathryn Bernardo slated for the role of Mara opposite Julia Montes as Clara.

Synopsis

The story began with Alvira and Gary being former lovers. Alvira received a scholarship which required her to study in the States, this put a strain to her relationship with Gary which caused them to end the relationship. Gary was very heart broken. While Alvira was in the States, Gary spent majority of his time with his childhood friend, Susan. Years later when Alvira finished her studies, she returned to the Philippines. Gary was very excited to see Alvira again but to his dismay, she is already engaged to be married to a wealthy businessman Amante del Valle. Gary was furious about this news and drank his sorrows which led him to spend a night of passion with his childhood friend Susan. Later on Susan became pregnant by Gary which cause Lupe (Gary's mother), to blame her. When Alvira and Susan born their child, Gary started his plan, to take revenge at Amante for stealing her love one, he wants to kidnap Alvira's child, but he was jailed because he was caught selling drugs, because of this, Karlo, his younger brother, continued the plan as Gary ordered. He switched Susan and Alvira's babies. Alvira's baby, was brought up to Susan and Gary while Susan's baby, was brought up to Alvira and Amante. Alvira's baby, was named Mara by Susan while Susan's baby, was named Clara by Amante and Alvira. All these events were recorded in Karlo's diary.
