Levofloxacin is relatively new fluoroquinolone antibiotic, marketed by Ortho-McNeil under the brand name Levaquin. Chemically, Levaquin is the S-enantiomer (L-isomer) of ofloxacin. Levofloxacin is effective against a number of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
