Vasif Talibov (born 14 January 1960, Aralig, Nakhchivan ASSR, Azerbaijan SSR) is the current parliamentary chairman of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan. He is a member of the New Azerbaijan Party and is related to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Talibov is also known for his authoritarian rule in the region, being compared by Nakhchivan's residents to the former dictator of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov. He intimidates all opposition and seizes "any private property he takes a liking to," while also arresting "whoever he wants." His administration is also corrupt, with aid sent to Nakhchivan from foreign countries ending up in the hands of Talibov's relatives and close associates.
