Plot

When she is faced with various forms of 'trials' that test her kindness, it brings misfortune for being 'overly-kind'. Against misfortune and for the sake of her friends, she maintains her kind heart and becomes stronger. However, in her journey, how will she fare, why is she being tested?

Various terms used in the series have been given background on the Bloodpedia page on the official website.
- Ba Gua (八卦, hakke)
A method of divination said to have originated in China, which determines the lay of ills and fortune with interpretation of eight trigrams.
- Furukimono (古きもの, furukimono, ancient ones)
Creatures of no definite shape or form, capable of possessing and appearing in the guises of various lifeforms and inanimate objects. They have preyed upon humans since ancient times, and it appears that Saya is the only one able to defeat them. Saya's mother is said to have died fighting them. Though bestial in nature, some can communicate in human speech, and comprehend concepts of social hierarchy.
- Galileo Thermometer (ガリレオ温度計, garireo ondokei)
A type of thermometer named after Italian physicist Galileo Galilei, made of a sealed glass cylinder containing a clear liquid and a series of objects whose densities are such that they rise or fall as the temperature changes. Also called Galilean thermometer. A strange device that frequently appears during narration; the thermometer in the animation contains glass bulbs with blood-colored liquid within.
- Guimauve (ギモーブ, gimo-bu)
A French confection resembling and related to marshmallow.
- Sacred Blade (御神刀, goshintou, blade that protects divinity)
A relic of worship in the Ukishima Shrine, used as an instrument with which to defeat Furukimono. Kept by Tadayoshi, and wielded by Saya upon his permission. When not in use, the fang-like decorations on the hilt secure the scabbard, and the blade cannot by drawn unless certain rituals are carried out. It is likely that Saya is the only one capable of drawing the blade.
- Sanbara Private Academy (私立三荊学園, shiritsu sanbara gakuen)
A private high school on the lakefront; the only high school in the area. Saya is a student in 2nd Year Class B, and her homeroom teacher is Kanako Tsutsutori.
- Ukishima Shrine (浮島神社, ukishima jinja)
An ancient shrine in the mountains behind a small town by a lake. Owing to its location, visitors are infrequent. It appears that another, larger shrine exists somewhere in the town, and major events of worship are carried out there instead.
