Arindam is Sanskrit for the man who has won all his enemies. Hindu god Shiva and Krishna also have this name. Even Arjun of Mahabharata and Indrajit of Ramayana have the same name for their bravery and triumph over their enemy.

In Eastern part of India, Arindam is a popular name among the Bengalis. In Bengali, it is pronounced as "Awe-Reen-Daum".

In Southern India God Subramanya is referred to as Arindama - Destroyer of enemies. Arinthamah Kumarascha Guhaskandho Mahabalaaha! is reference in Subramanya Trisathi.

Biography

I am a freelance photojournalist based in Kolkata, India. I started my career as an advertising photographer and have had worked with reputed advertising agencies, fashion designers, graphic designers and NGOs. From the very beginning, I was more interested in street photography; which later brought me to photojournalism. I started my career in photojournalism as a freelance in The Times of India. I have worked as the chief photographer and assignment director for EyePress photo agency based in Hong Kong. Presently I work as a freelance photojournalist for newspapers, magazines and NGOs. Presently me and my works are represented by Sipa Press (World market), Landov Llc (North American market).

Planman Motion Pictures

The film In 2003, I have received the National Media Fellowship from the National Foundation for India for my long term work on Indian Coal Miners. In 2006 I won the B. Bangoor Endowment Fellowship for my work on Indian Sex workers. I was awarded with the New America Media Award in photojournalism section in 2009 for my work 'Empowerment behind Burkha', published in Audrey Magazine (California, USA). My pictures have appeared in Le Figaro, Stern, Der Spiegel, The Sunday Telegraph, Le Monde, Liberation, Le point, De Volkskrant, Private, Forbes, Traveler Magazine (UK), Marie Claire and many other major publications throughout the world. Solo exhibition of my photographs have been held in New Delhi (India) and Cork city (Ireland). Planman Motion Pictures went on to produced Bengali movies Sanjhbatir Rupkathara (2002), Dosar (2006) and the National Film Award winner Faltu (2006). The company also produced two more Hindi movies Mithya (2008), starring Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia, Naseeruddin Shah and Vinay Pathak. and Sunglass (to be released). Another movie produced by them, The Last Lear was awarded the National Film Award for Best Film in English in the year 2009 by the Government of India.

Other ventures

In 2004, Arindam Chaudhuri founded Planman I:TES (renamed in 2006 as Planman Technologies), an IT services company and Planman Life, an advertising and television production company.

Arindam Chaudhuri has published three books:

  • Discover the diamond in you, a motivational book
  • Count your chickens before they hatch, a self-help guide.
  • The Great Indian Dream, (co-authored with his father Dr. Malay Chaudhuri) a compilation of essays on how India can grow at over 10% to create per capita income levels of a developed country by 2025.
