His great size was a result of acromegaly, or excessive growth hormone. He has since become an ironic icon, stemming from a series of ubiquitous André the Giant Has a Posse stickers.
Acclaimed by his prepresentitives in the WWE as being 7'0 and 500 pounds, Andre was quick to become a dominant figure in the wrestling word. By Wrestlemania 3, the feud between Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan had drawn a fan base to wrestling that had never been reached before. This short but memorable career has solidified Andre as a legend in professional wrestling.
