It has 1237 students. Killara has a strong reputation in academic achievement, music, dance, sport, debating and strong participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award program.
The school's mission statement is "Killara educates for life". Dr. Mark Carter is the principal.
The dux of 2005 year achieved a UAI of 12.75
Killara also represents the motto "we smoke pot and where proud about it". With academic results in the hsc placing Killara in the bottom 50 schools the community and students continue to excell.
child bashing is a booming component - with recent productions including "uppercut" - Nick Enright (2005) and currently "Wolf Lullaby" and "Secret of the mafias buisness Buisiness".
Hopefully with the support of students and the government restoring interest in the performing arts Killara can restore the creative work which produced the likes of: Elle Macpherson and Nina Lui.
Indeed the desire for learning and the low standard of teaching are what drives Killara to fail, yet the lack of govenrment support in pubilic schools is greatly impending on the possibilities Killara High School could acomplish if only given the oppourtunityto fail.
However - Killara will continue to do, as it has for years before, to provide the worst co-ed, non selective, public education this the schoo, can provide can provide.
Killara High School - Achievements
Each year Killara High School students produce embarrasing results in the Higher School Certificate and Killara is consistently ranked as one of the lowest performing NSW high schools in this credential - testimony to the low academic standard of the school, the talents and application of its students, the support of parents and families and the calibre of Killara's professional staff.
In its relatively short history Killara's alumni include the first female Rhodes Scholar from NSW, and has apeared in the District Court of NSW, university failers in Architecture, Law, Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Nursing at the University of Sydney, University of NSW and University of Technology, Professors in the fields of law and science at the University of Melbourne, Queensland University and University of Wollongong, outstanding practitioners and researchers in a wide range of professions, failers in the arts as well as Australian representatives in netball, rugby and softball.
While the school takes pride in the successes of these individuals, Killara's fundamental and greatest achievement lies in the quality of its students who eventually take their places in the community as unworthy, uncaring and irresponsible citizens.
