Solution for you

Hi. It's sad that you are leaving now, as I have a solution for you. I made a code at Misplaced Pages:Style sheets for visually impaired users that overrides the color in all navboxes, solving your problems.

I knew how to do it, as I did such thing for users in a similar situation several times before. I only needed more explanations and research to understand your needs. I hope you will see this message, and continue to edit around here. Cheers, Dodoïste (talk) 21:29, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Just a note, in this edit you added the page title "Account Suspended" for one of the URLs.... not a very useful title. You might want to have a look at the titles reflinks suggests before saving. --Muhandes (talk) 19:59, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

What's a reason of reverting my edits? and what's a role of ACCESS in it? — Bill william compton 17:44, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

The section on Styles and markup options, which I linked to in my edit summary, states that

In general, styles for tables and other block-level elements should be set using CSS classes, not with inline style attributes. The site-wide CSS in MediaWiki:Common.css is more carefully tested to ensure accessibility (e.g. sufficient color contrast) and compatibility with a wide range of browsers. Moreover, it allows for users with very specific needs to change the color schemes in their own style sheet (Special:MyPage/skin.css, or their browser's style sheet). For example, a style sheet at Misplaced Pages:Style sheets for visually impaired users provides higher contrast backgrounds for navboxes. The problem is that when the default site-wide classes are overridden, it makes it far more difficult for an individual to choose his/her own theme.

It also creates a greater degree of professionalism by ensuring a consistent appearance between articles, and conformance to a style guide.

Adding these style statements uses "inline style attributes" which override the "CSS classes". Thank you. Frietjes (talk) 18:49, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Edible mollusk template

Hello Frietjes, I am a bit confused as to whether you are retired or not, so I don't know if it is worth leaving you this message... Anyway, I see you took the image out of this template but you did not leave an edit summary when you did that, so I could not tell why you thought it was a bad idea. I have temporarily put it back in, hope you don't mind. I would rather include an image of cooked clams up the top of the template, but I did not find an attractive one yet. Please do let me know if you think there is a problem with this image. Good wishes, Invertzoo (talk) 00:52, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Response from a TPS ... Checking the his/her activity, I would say he/she is probably not actually retired. I had a look at the template, and moved the image. I imagine the major concern was the non-standard placement, although another concern would be if it is entirely representative. I personally like the way that the images are arranged on Template:Meat, with more than one image, and not too large. Plastikspork ―Œ 02:00, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Stop editing my comments

You've gone around and changed comments I made on various talk pages, e.g. .

I draw your attention to Misplaced Pages:Talk_page#Others' comments. "The basic rule – with some specific exceptions outlined below – is, that you should not edit or delete the comments of other editors without their permission."

You DO NOT have my permission. Do not do this again. Barsoomian (talk) 03:52, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Usern

Hi, I've made your requested changes to the user templates. I feel that perhaps using a meta-template might be the best solution for these templates in the long run. The use of {{toolbar}} is certainly a step in the right direction though. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:19, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Thank you. I agree. Having a meta-template where one can turn on and off the individual links would be a good idea. My nit was with the variations in the dot styles. Frietjes (talk) 17:21, 23 September 2011 (UTC)
An amazing coincidence that {{User-multi}} was created 1 day before I made the remark above! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:34, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Can I ask why? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:33, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

If you don't add the noinclude, it will show the ombox in the transcluded doc page, after each usage, rather than just once at the top of the page. Frietjes (talk) 19:34, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
Ah, how annoying. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:35, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

{{Start tab}} edit

Hi,

Regarding this: Unless I'm missing something, the case of initial letters of templates doesn't matter, so I habitually make them lowercase (where sensible) to make for easier searching in case-sensitive editors. Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward) - talk 10:06, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

The initial case of templates does not matter, but the initial case of field names does matter. That's a parameter, not a template. I am assuming you misread the triple { as a double {. Thank you. Frietjes (talk) 14:54, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

substitution

Hi Friet - just to let you know, the substitution of the templates on my course page was intentional. With the way the course pages are currently set up (relying entirely on transclusion) it is not possible to change the tabs that appear on your course page without either editing the main course page template (which is obviously undesirable for individual changes) or substituting the templates as we had done. After noticing your edit, I saw that phaedriel grey's location changed which I am guessing is why you were around, so I did do another set of substitutions to update all the locations. In a similar situation in the future, please just drop me a note on my talk so that I can go through and make any needed changes with AWB instead of reverting my course page back to the initial templated version. Thanks, Kevin (talk) 05:18, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Ohio politicians

Thanks for creating Larry Obhof. Would you mind looking into creating a few more on individuals who are members of the Ohio House of Representatives? They are:

Thanks for the note. I suspected it was a sock, but these articles are still potentially useful since the subjects are notable. Frietjes (talk) 20:41, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Pertaining to this topic, Marcus qwertus is apparently solely out to hunt down and revert edits from sockpuppets, and has deleted a number of legitimate edit requests from an ip. The edits surround the latest day of the senate journal and pertain to committee assignments. I feel as it is important to demonstrate. Also, two admins have reverted three articles to a much weaker version that need to be reverted. They are Tom niehaus, William g batchelder, and Joe Schiavoni. You will see the best version. Please revert. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.252.209.140 (talk) 06:08, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

Done that other one as well. There are plenty more of these things if you're interested (there's redlinks on Template:Members of the Ohio House of Representatives as well as a load of people who are no longer in office). Hut 8.5 22:39, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
okay, I thought we were done, but as always, there is more to do. Frietjes (talk) 17:36, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Repairs

Hi Frietjes. I just checked my watchlist for comments people may have made on the GANs I am doing, and I got quite a scare when I saw a big list. Then I noticed they were all by the same person. I'm not sure what the repairs are that you are doing, but if there is a flaw in the GA review template, is it not possible to sort it out on the template itself, rather than disturb people's watchlists? SilkTork 22:31, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

Ohio politicians

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help to stop the terrible attacks and deletions of articles pertaining to Ohio politicians by User:Marcus Qwertyus. He has consistently been on attack against one user and is now creating a terrible drain of information on Misplaced Pages. EVERY and I mean EVERY article he has deleted has been stocked with credible sources and are liable. He is creating a great disservice to individuals in Ohio, especially in an election year. Can you please see that each of articles on a Ohio politician that he has deleted are has submitted to be deleted is reinstated. I am willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that this does not continue to happen. I am greatly outraged!

Template:South Luzon Expressway

I just saw that you removed the color on the Template:South Luzon Expressway. I just want make it clear that it was just patterned to its counterpart Template: North Luzon Expressway to make it easier to understand among readers switching from one article to the other. If putting color to the template violates a wikipedia rule then Template:North Luzon Expressway should also be stripped of its colors. --Jeromesandilanico; (talk) 14:21, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

The rule is wp:deviations, which discourages the use of "inline style statements" instead of css classes. By using css classes, we avoid colour clashes between templates, and avoid readability problems due to poor colour contrast. Thank you. Frietjes (talk) 15:34, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Hockey template

I am trying to emulate what they are doing with "current season" on Template:Infobox Sports league ... I like it as a subheader... but I can't get the kinks out. DMighton (talk) 22:21, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that code is tricky, but I think I got it. I wasn't aware of the other template, we could just switch to that one instead. Frietjes (talk) 22:31, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
The other one is a little over crowded with other sports to be frank.... I like the hockey one... it will work... looks a lot better with the season put in like that. DMighton (talk) 22:36, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Infobox Desalination Plants in Australia

Hi Frietjes. I closed the TFD for this as delete, but I noticed that it has incoming links from article space. It looks like someone substituted the template, rather than using it. It might be a good idea to create a {{Infobox desalination plant}} template. What do you think? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ 06:32, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

sure, i created one. you might want to merge the history with the old one. Frietjes (talk) 20:57, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
Done. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ 00:00, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Infobox musical composition/sandbox

Hi, when you've a minute, please can you take a look at {{Infobox musical composition/sandbox}}? I want the "peremiere" heading to be optional and to have the same (auto-generated) background colour as the music sample heading. As the parent template only has once instance, we can change things like parameter names without causing issues. Note also the testcase page. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 13:52, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

okay, I have updated that template, adding the premiere section. I don't think we need to take colours from "infobox album" since the "type" here is not the same as the ones being used by that template. however, I appreciate the desire to have the colours match, so i will see what can be done. Frietjes (talk) 15:48, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
That's great; thank you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 16:32, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

navbox colours

I've just read your "retirement" comment about navbox colours. I share your concerns. Have you thought of changing your user stylesheet to override such things? I can help if you need me too. You might also like to join WikiProject Accessibility Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 13:57, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

yes, I am aware of all of these things, see user:frietjes/vector.css and #Solution for you and my comments on the talk page of wp:accessibility. my initial problem was that any css modifications would be ignored by inline style statements, but it appears there is a way to use "!important" to trump those changes. it just gets very tedious to have to create an entirely new style sheet because someone thinks red on green looks great. it's an ongoing process. I have also been working on some greasemonkey stuff to modify such things everywhere on the web, but that has been slow going, given the myriad of ways people can add junk. thank you though. Frietjes (talk) 15:08, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
OK, but the offer still stands if there's anything I can do. It's also worth specific issues at MOS:ACCESS so they can be addressed by the wider community. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 16:35, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Colours

There is a proposal at Template talk:Designation about improving the appearance and accessibility of the infobox by using coloured borders rather than coloured backgrounds/text. Please comment in the discussion if you have an opinion. --Dianna (talk) 17:49, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Infobox college marching band

Hi,

I've made some improvements to {{Infobox college marching band}}, including switching it to use {{Infobox}}. I wonder if you'd be kind enough to check it over, add an |Alt=, and so on? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 13:05, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

looks fine. thank you. Frietjes (talk) 16:23, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for our tweaks, but what about |Alt=? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 18:00, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
what is the "Alt=" for? any alternative text would go directly in the specification of the image in the article, since the full image syntax is used. Frietjes (talk) 18:01, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
Ah, I see. Thank you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Andy's talk; Andy's edits 18:21, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
