Rationale of fair use for Katie Holmes
The use of this file in the article(s) Pieces of April was reviewed by Hetar on 06:15, 3 July 2006 (UTC) and deemed likely to meet Misplaced Pages's policy on non-freely licensed content, because it is thought to meet all criteria as described in Misplaced Pages:Non-free content criteria. This file's use on other pages or in different contexts may require additional review at Misplaced Pages:Files for discussion. |
The image Image:Pieces of April movie.jpg is being linked here; though the picture is originally copyright, I (Extraordinary Machine 18:46, 20 February 2006 (UTC)) feel it is covered by fair use because:
- The image is a promotional poster originally created by United Artists, and intended for wide distribution.
- No free or public domain images have been located for the subject of the article or this film.
- The image is of lower resolution than the original poster (copies made from it will be of inferior quality).
- The image does not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute the poster or the film in any way.
- The image is intended to represent the subject in arguably her most well-received film role as of writing. Its inclusion in the article is important because it represents a significant point in the subject's career that is discussed in the article.
- The image is used on various websites, so its use on Misplaced Pages does not make it significantly more accessible or visible than it already is. The image is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original poster or the film in any way.
This image fails WP:FUC. Fair-use images may not be used to depict living people. --Yamla 01:39, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- It's being used to depict her role in the film, not her. Still, I think we'd be able to provide a safer fair use claim for a screenshot from the film itself, as it's Holmes's role in the film that is discussed in the article, not her presence on the poster.
