Plot
It's almost Christmas, and Greg Heffley is paranoid because "Santa's Scout" is watching them and reporting back to Santa. At school, bullying is a problem, and there is only one bully at Greg's school. Meanwhile, the school is having problems paying the insurance for the playground. The school took away every piece of equipment where a student got injured. The teachers rule is that nobody is allowed to run or even sit down. During school, Greg is having trouble with focusing since the students having recess always came to the window. Greg then talks about how he had gotten a doll for Christmas. It was for preparing for his new brother (Manny). He really liked the doll, but one day, he lost the doll. So he got a Grapefruit and drew on a face with marker. It worked out until it got smelly. So Greg played an online game called Net Kritterz. Rowley came over for a while. Later, Greg went around his neighborhood looking for somebody's lawn to shovel snow off of for some money. He found a person on Prentice Lane. When he started shoveling the snow, when it started snowing again. He had an idea to take his Gramma's lawn mower. It only went through the snow and stayed where it was. Greg had another idea to take the person's sprinkler to melt the snow and it worked, but a while later, it turned slippery.
The cafeteria took a lot of unhealthy foods off the menu. Greg talks about how he got the Tower of Druids graphic novel signed by the author. When Greg was younger, he wanted to be an author himself. He copied from a book, and his mom sent it to a publisher in New York. Later Greg finds Drummies at the store. Greg had an idea to sell the drummies and have a Holiday Bazaar to make some money. His school did have it's own Holiday Bazaar. Greg wanted to make his own newspaper and put the news about the Holiday Bazaar. When they were finished, Greg went to his school and asked the Vice Principal if he could sell the newspaper to the school. He said no so Greg made posters to put on the school wall. It started to rain and the rain made the ink on the poster bleed. It left green splotches on the wall. Somebody saw what they had done and Greg and Rowley ran. The next day, the Vandalism appeared in the town newspaper. This isn't the first time Greg has done a crime. Rowley was scared that his future might be ruined. The police came to the school and called downthe worst trouble makers. Greg was called down the next day and so he told the police and the Vice Principal abot the poster and the rain. Vice Principal Roy made Greg clean the splothches off the wall.
Later, it started snow a lot. Greg realizes that a blizzard is starting. His Net Kritterz account is locked, so he can't purchase more tokens. Greg's mom wanted the family to stay active during the blizzard. So she got a n exercise game to use on Greg's system. Mom didn't want her sons to slow down on their education so she made a class for them. Greg did a magic trick in front of Manny where there was a magic hole in the table. So Manny took Mom's glasses and broke them. Now Mom can't see. The basement flooded a little while later. A bunch of the family's special things got ruined. Rodrick was still sleeping in his bed. Since the basement is Rodrick's room, he moved into Greg's Room. The house was running low on food, and blizzard was showing no signs of stopping. The electricity was cut for a few seconds. A few days later, Rowley came over. Greg was confused that all the houses had their Christmas lights on. He looked at the circuit breaker, and the only switch that was on was Manny's room. After Greg put the switches on to the rest of the house, Dad came home with food. Greg's mom wanted Greg to put the gift to the Toy Drive. Greg searched for his gift and it wasn't there. During Christmas, there weren't any gifts under the tree. Santa put the gifts in garbage bags.
Creation
Kinney was trapped inside his house in New England during a blizzard that happened in January of 2011. He stated that for three long months, the snow piled up and his new dog he had got before the blizzard happened had an only knowledge of a tunnel that was dug on the piled-up snow to 'supposedly' relieve himself.(He said that the dog relieved in the heated family room of Kinney's home)
