Mat Kearney (CARN-ee) is a singer/songwriter based out of Nashville, TN. His music has an acoustic base fused with hip hop. He is signed to Inpop Records with general distribution by Aware/Columbia Records. In addition to singing, he also plays guitar, piano and harmonica.

Mat was raised in Eugene, Oregon. He attended Chico State University in Chico, California where he majored in English Literature and played soccer. Later he began songwriting, and his four-song demo found its way into the hands of musician and Gotee Records owner tobyMac, who encouraged him to pursue music.

In 2001, Mat moved to Nashville and collaborated with established artists such as ZOEgirl, The Katinas and Stacie Orrico. The first single, "Undeniable", off his label debut Bullet broke the record for the largest number of out-of-the-box adds for a radio single on R&R’s (Radio and Records) Christian CHR chart. He has toured with Shane & Shane and in the Spring of 2005, he co-headlined a tour with Teleprompt Records artist Mute Math. His freestyle breakdowns during his live shows are always crowd pleasers.

A new album is due April 4, 2006.

Among his influences, he lists Paul Simon, U2, and spoken word.
