More welcome and remark
Welcome from me too. Thank you for your contributions; your name pops quite often on my watchlist. And one remark. A good habit to cultivate is putting an edit summary when you contribute. It is one of those small things which makes life easy for everybody who sees your contributions on the watchlist, recent changes, etc; one can think of edit summaries as the "Subject:" line in an email. Thanks a lot, and I hope you enjoy editing. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 12:04, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
Category pages
Hi Figaro - just to let you know I have created the category pages for your two new categories: Category:Doctor in the House TV actors and Category:Goodies actors. Hope they're OK Stephenb (Talk) 13:25, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
- I also created Category:St Trinians actors. When you see that a new category appears red, if you then click on the link, you can then create the category. All you need to do is type some text like "This category contains actors who appeared in the St Trinians films" and click save, and bingo!. Please feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you require any help with creating categories. --TimPope 17:42, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Gardens Point, Brisbane
Hi Figaro, I'm having some trouble formatting the photos at the Gardens point article. Would you mind taking a look? Thanks. -- Adz|talk 06:03, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks. I noticed your recent comment on the Brisbane talk page. I think that perhaps you've needlessly taken some people's comments about your photos personally. I don't think there is anything wrong with analogue photos. I think with any photos it's just a matter of weighing up the number of photos on an article, the quality of the photos (irrespective of analogue or digital), and how much value they add to the article. That's always going to be a subjective judgment. Just try not to take other people's subjective views personally.
- Thanks again for the formatting. Happy editing. -- Adz|talk 06:34, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
Brisbane WikiProject
Hi. I just thought I'd let you know that I am turning my attention to drumming up some activity at the Brisbane WikiProject. I've created a recent activity section on the project talk page. See what you think and maybe list articles that you're working on if you'd like others to join in. Cheers -- Adz|talk 12:17, 27 March 2006 (UTC).

official common names
There is only one source for official common names, Mammal Species of the World, 3rd ed. MSW3 calls it the Ebony Glider. What the government of Australia decides to call it does not matter - that's a local name. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:08, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
To wit:
Unlike previous editions, we have provided a common name for each recognized species. The starting point for these names is Wilson and Cole (2000), but each author was encouraged to examine those names and to provide a different one if there was a good reason to do so. Thus, this list can be viewed as a second edition of Wilson and Cole (2000) There are no urles governing vernacular names, but Wilson and Cole (2000) outlined several reasons for adopting a single name for each species of mammal.

MSW3 is publisihed by Smithsonian, and the section on marsupials was written by Colin Groves. - UtherSRG (talk)
Contact Groves, too. I'm interested in hearing both sides of the argument. - UtherSRG (talk) 15:43, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
I've just fired off an email to Groves. Would you like a copy? You can email me. - UtherSRG (talk) 15:32, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
If you email me, then I can forward it to you. Or if you don't want to email me, I can paste the text here. - UtherSRG (talk) 15:58, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
Dr. Groves,
My colleagues and I are using the recently publish Mammal Species of the World, 3rd ed., to update the articles on marsupials on Misplaced Pages ( http://en.wikipedia.org/Marsupial ). I note that you have changed some of the common names, and wonder what the rationale was for these changes. In particular, the three differences listed below are the ones I find most interesting.
- Dusky Caenolestid vs Silky Caenolestid (Caenolestes fuliginosus) http://en.wikipedia.org/Dusky_Shrew_Opossum
- Slender-tailed Dunnart vs Common Dunnart (Sminthopsis murina) http://en.wikipedia.org/Slender-tailed_Dunnart
- Ebony Glider vs Mahogany Glider ( Petaurus gracilis) http://en.wikipedia.org/Mahogany_Glider
Any information you can provide on these or other changes would be most appreciated.
Sincerely,
Stacey Greenstein
Mahogany is correct
1. Dusky Caenolestid vs Silky Caenolestid (Caenolestes fuliginosus) http://en.wikipedia.org/Dusky_Shrew_Opossum
This one was not me – I think Ron Pine wrote the South American marsupials.
2. Slender-tailed Dunnart vs Common Dunnart (Sminthopsis murina) http://en.wikipedia.org/Slender-tailed_Dunnart 3. Ebony Glider vs Mahogany Glider ( Petaurus gracilis) http://en.wikipedia.org/Mahogany_Glider
‘Slender-tailed’ was recommended by the editors, on the recommendation of the Common Names Committee. I have to confess that this was not the case for ‘Ebony’, and I cannot now remember where it came from. I’m sorry about this, and I will try to find out where I got it from. Thanks for pointing this out.
Cheers
Colin Groves
