The 5th Pan American Games were held in Winnipeg, Canada.

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada was chosen as host of the Pan American Games on its second try. Winnipeg first bid for the fourth Pan American Games at the 1959 PASO meeting in Chicago. It lost to São Paulo, Brazil. The Winnipeg Pan American Society then turned it's sights to 1967 and was named host nation at the PASO meeting at the São Paulo Games.
