Von Hohenlohe was the son of one of the most richest and most powerfull feudals in Württemberg. He had four brothers and one sister. Right from the childhood he was destined to join the Church. Between 1218 and 1219, von Hohenlohe was canon (priest) of Würzburg. In 1220, he and two of his brothers joined the Teutonic Order.
