Renaming discussion

With the CfD discussion on renaming being filed under "no consensus", I suggest we attempt to create one here.

Obviously there is a problem with the categories "Subdivisions of Foo". As I see it, we should rename to a single term which does feel natural and is also correct. Distilling from the discussion on CFD, there are three options:

  1. Administrative divisions of Foo
  2. Political divisions of Foo
  3. Country subdivisions of Foo

Any options I've missed? The Minister of War 08:18, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

i changed your proposal to "Country subdivisions of Foo". You missed the option to use
  1. Subdivisions of Foo

since Foo is a country it might be regarded unecessary to have the word country in the lead. We furthermore need to think about:

  1. Historical ...divisions of Foo
  2. Former ...divisions of Foo
  3. ...divisions of historic countries

"..." means "Administrative" / "Political" / "Sub" / "Country Sub" Tobias Conradi (Talk) 12:04, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

The qualifier doesn't have to be "sub-", but I oppose the suggested move to "administrative". Since some divisions are not administrative or political, e.g. landscapes, regions, districts, metropolitan regions, and villages, I think it shouldn't be "administrative" or "political". And since many divisions are modern and current, e.g. states, counties, provinces, boroughs, municipalities, towns, and cities, I think it shouldn't be "historical" or "former". How about
  1. "geographical" or
  2. "geographical and administrative"?

...divisions of Myanmar, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan

For these countries there exists the term "administrative" division for a specific type of subdivisions. E.g. The administrative divisions of Myanmar consist of (administrative) divisions and states. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 14:06, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
