History
The street was formerly known as rue Longue-Saint-Jean. Number 9 is the house where historian Ambroise Roux-Alphéran died in 1858. At the place d'Armenie, where the street meets the rue d'Italie, is a former tax office where duties on wheat and flower brought into the city were levied.
