Hello. You have a new message at Steven (WMF)'s talk page.
New Pages newsletter
Hey all :)
A couple of new things.
First, you'll note that all the project titles have now changed to the Page Curation prefix, rather than having the New Pages Feed prefix. This is because the overarching project name has changed to Page Curation; the feed is still known as New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar is still the Curation Toolbar. Hopefully this will be the last namechange ;p.
On the subject of the Curation Toolbar (nice segue, Oliver!) - it's now deployed on Misplaced Pages. Just open up any article in the New Pages Feed and it should appear on the right.
It's still a beta version - bugs are expected - and we've got a lot more work to do. But if you see something going wrong, or a feature missing, drop me a note or post on the project talkpage and I'll be happy to help :). Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 00:09, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks
Hi David, thanks for this. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 16:15, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- No problem. You probably would have fixed it on your own, but I went ahead and did it for you. David1217 16:17, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I hit the edit button to fix and noticed you already had. And Zippy had to sign it for me. I didn't do very well with that addition ;). Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 16:23, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- All's well that ends well, right? David1217 16:25, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- Exactly. Callanecc (talk • contribs • logs) 16:40, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

More thanks
From me. I hate blocks as I have experienced that pain once but at least I was trying to contribute, not destroy... --E4024 (talk) 17:35, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- I didn't block the user (I am not an admin, but thanks for thinking that I'm one! ). I was just noting that User:Qwyrxian had blocked the IP (User talk:46.104.161.208)—24 hours for vandalism. David1217 17:40, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
- Then thanks to Qwyrxian (this nickname sounds like KIVIRCIKYAN to me, Son of the Curly Haired :-) also. Let us hope that that IP learns to interact in 24 hours... Take care. --E4024 (talk) 17:45, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Question from 3 Speaker High
Hello David,
First, thank you for responding to my query. Second, I'm new to Wiki so I'm not even sure this message will be posted as I couldn't find a "reply" button. Third, the wiki article I'm writing is about a band that I follow. I contacted the band's rep and was given permission to write the article. I didn't want to get sued so I made sure I got permission prior to attempting to write this article. However, your note indicated that it was an advertisement. It's not my intention to make it sound like an ad. I have more information to write but after the speed deletion thing, I had to revamp the language. I also don't know how to give "credit" to articles written about the band. For example if Rolling Stones Magazine said "they were awesome" then how do I relay that on here?
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I tried to "youtube" it but the articles are limited and doesn't explain these parts.
Thank you once again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 3 Speaker High (talk • contribs) 17:05, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Well first things first. You put the message in the right place, but just a tip: the "New section" button at the top is the best way to add a message. Don't worry, you didn't do anything wrong though!
- Your article was deleted for two reasons: first, it was a copyvio of a magazine article—if you want to write an article, it must be your own words. You can't copy-paste from other sources, but you can cite them (see a beginner's guide). On a related note, a subject must be notable, i.e. they must have multiple third-party reliable sources write about them. Second, Misplaced Pages articles must be written from a neutral point of view. This means no promotional language.
- Does that answer your questions? David1217 18:46, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Response re deletion of smiths detection draft page
Hello David1217,
This is my first time using wikipedia so my apologies if the first draft of this page fell short of the required standard. It is not my intention to create an advertisement for Smiths Detection merely to create an entry that explains as fully as I can what the company does (without replicating what is already on their company website) and include appropriate contact details for interested parties - bearing in mind the global scope of their operations. Would you be so kind as to provide some pointers regarding the specific areas of the page that you felt were inappropriate?
Many thanks for any help or advice you are able to provide!
Stujamjen
P.S. After reading your original message, when I clicked on the "contest this deletion" link it brought up an error page is this normal? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stujamjen (talk • contribs) 13:50, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- You need to show that your company has gotten multiple outside reliable sources to write about it—this is called notability. You also need to write articles from a neutral point of view, which means no promotional language. The article wizard is a helpful step-by-step guide to creating an article. Also, the error page you brought up is not normal—what did it look like? Anyways, happy editing! David1217 16:13, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
Please apply for accounts
Hi David1217. Regarding your comment at the village pump about database accounts, I would encourage you to apply for the accounts anyway because you are likely to be accepted. I asked a similar question and got this response "I'll gladly set you up with an account.". If you want to help reference articles, then you are likely to get an account. Best regards. 64.40.54.119 (talk) 21:18, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks for telling me. I'll give it a try. David1217 22:59, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
