Open proxy?

Hi Takwer,

Do you know how to determine if 12.4.27.44 (talk · contribs) is an open proxy or not? It's an obvious sock of the permabanned User:Bonaparte anyhow. Thanks. —Khoikhoi 08:15, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

A thank you, and a request

Hello! Thanks for your assistance on my Talk page. I'm wondering if you may be up to a favor? I'm hoping you're CheckUser capable, because I'd rather handle this one-on-one than go to WP:RCU if I can help it.

The Reader's Digest version, if I can: Starting with problems with User:Jim16, an account that appeared to be created so the user could vandalize as User:66.17.116.148 while logged off—except, he appeared to forget several times who was which, leading me to initiate this RCU (that first example alone convinced me: look at the next two edits). Within the last few days, User:Jim16 apologized for and claimed to renounce vandalism, and asked me for help with an article he had created in January. Six hours later, User:Elliott Johnson (created in mid-March) showed up (after four edits to his own pages, two productive edits and then nothing for a month), ostensibly with a legitimate editing question, only to vandalize my page less than 20 hours afterwards. A similar attack came only 90 minutes later from User:Goat322, who tried lamely to cover that he aimed at me alone before doing it again.

How is this potentially tied? User:Jim16 says he's "a liberal Democrat from South Dakota"; IP 66.17.116.148 traces to Swiftel Communications, Brookings, SD (these two are tied for sure, as above); User:Elliott Johnson claimed to be from Brookings, SD, before erasing it; and, the timing from User:Goat322 certainly raises eyebrows.

I do so much want to WP:AGF, but this is awfully suspicious... RadioKirk talk to me 16:48, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Deleted Bible as Myth

Hi. Would you please the deletion of The Bible as myth on Talk:The Bible as myth? Thanks. --JBJ 20:50, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Oops, I meant would explain the deletion of The Bible as myth. Sorry. To my knowledge there was never any nomination for deletion or other discussion. --JBJ 02:11, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/The Bible as myth -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 02:13, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. For the record, it wasn't conscously a fork or original research. It's actually a very well known idea in the scholarly theologian community, but it hasn't filtered down well to pop-religion. Literary myth is too often confused with
You may want to review these articles: Higher criticism, Textual criticism, Criticism of the Bible (has the non-NPOV conforming tag, or Biblical studies as a starting point - wikipedia adequately covers scholarly discussion of the bible. Trödel 14:24, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Just another RFA thank you note

Dear Tawker, I appreciate your vote and your kind words in my RFA. It has passed with an unexpected 114/2/2 and I feel honored by this show of confidence in me. Cheers! ←Humus sapiens 03:00, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Super-admin

Hi, I just wanted to say that lately, I have been coming across you a lot. I don't know of it's just where I look, but you are the most active editor/admin I have ever encounterted. You have done more for WP than any other user I can find. You are an admin on 2 wikis. I think that they should create a new rank for admins like you, ones so involved that they are beyond admins. How about a new cat, "super admins", admins which are not just admins, but are the best of the best. The cat should be created and you should be the first person to go. Tobyk777 04:47, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Hogging (Sexual)

I see you speedied Hogging (Sexual) as a G4. G4 only applies to material that is "a substantially identical copy," which it was not as I noted on the talk page. Could you please review and undelete? Thanks. --badlydrawnjeff (WP:MEMES?) 12:15, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! --badlydrawnjeff (WP:MEMES?) 15:06, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Tawkerbot2

Just curious if you are having problems with the bot - this edit remained for 9 minutes, and a change to the comment instructing users to edit below the line remained for about 34 minutes (though the comment was changed several times). Thx in adv for looking into this. Trödel 12:49, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thx - weird that it was editing under a different name. I need to say again to you and Joshbuddy that the Tawkerbot2 is so awesome - great work!!! Maybe you could get the WMF to let you host it on one of their servers?? Trödel 15:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

FYI - Tawkerbot2 isn't working on Misplaced Pages:Introduction - I hope you don't mind that I keep reporting these down times to you - let me know if email is better, etc. Thx - Trödel 22:03, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

All caps message on TB2 talk page

The funny thing about all this, to me at least, was that yelling at the bot was, in the end, what got him blocked. He was on a vandalism run, and had several unreverted vandalisms scattered around. But yelling at TB2 put him on my watch page, which got me to check his contributions, which got his a well-deserved block. :) - TexasAndroid 18:12, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for voting on my RfA

Thanks so much for voting! Thanks so much for voting on my request for adminship. I have decided to withdraw my nomination as it seems that consensus will not be reached. If you voted in support, thanks for putting your trust in me to be a good admin. If you voted in opposition, thank you as well for your criticism as it will only help me be a better Wikipedian and perhaps help if/when I apply for adminship again sometime in the future.

News Stories

Since when does every irrelevent news story about a person get it's own section in an encylopedia entry? 75.3.4.54 03:23, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism

I am removing vandalism from the Marty Meehan article. I am taking out something that doesn't belong in an encyclopedia entry. Why don't you warn yourself and the people woh keep on putting the vandalism back in? 75.3.4.54 03:24, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

No Casual Readers

Misplaced Pages should be made for members only then if you put stuff like that in. It makes wikipedia look like a joke to people who aren't members. I have been using this site for a while, and I thought it had to be vandalism. Leave in if you want even less people to respect wikipedia. 75.3.4.54 03:30, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for setting User Talk:75.3.4.54 straight on the article Marty Meehan. I really didn't want to violate the 3RR or get into an edit war with this guy. --GeorgeMoney 03:32, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

24.119.155.147 Again

24.119.155.147 has started to make personal attacks against me again now that your previous block has expired... Please further look into this issue.G.He 00:19, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi there, I've just finally managed to upload a new version of the .NET Bot Framework. It now has support for getting the links to a particular article, using the Editor.GetLinksToArticle(string Article) function. All functions are properly documented using XML documentation. Many of you had issues with opening the ZIP file - these issues have now been properly resolved. The new version can be found at the usual URL. Thanks, Werdnabot /T\ on behalf of Werdna648 /C\ 02:24, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Bots

I can't figure out where to ask this question, so I was wondering if you could answer it:

Do you have to register/request a bot accont to run a bot? It would be AutoWikiBrower, which I assume is already registered in the "automatic mode."

Thanks. --Primate 04:15, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

AmiDaniel's nom

Damn! we had an edit conflict of thoughts, Tawker. I was gonna nominate him myself! Anyway, Daniel was very helpful to me last night in WP:AIV & I was wondering "Damn, why is this guy not yet an admin?" Anyway if you don't mind Tawker, I would like to co-nominate him. Of course, If he accepts. Srikeit 05:12, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

thanks

Thanks - I had just realized my error even as you corrected it. Thank you. Rama's Arrow 06:36, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Tawkerbot2 questions

I got a few questions about Tawkerbot2:

  • During what hours is Tawkerbot2 usually active?
  • I noticed that sometimes users will not get an automated message if their edit was reverted. In the case of an edit conflict, does Tawkerbot2 try to edit the user's talk page again? Or does it only try once?

Thanks. --Ixfd64 10:38, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

RFA thanks

Tawker, thanks for nominating me on my RFA, and for your support. In retrospect, I probably wasn't ready for it, but I really appreciate your support nonetheless. As always, you're an inspiration to me on wikpedia. Keep on keepin on. SWATJester Aim Fire! 00:52, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Clay Serby Article

I deleted the majority of the article as it was taken directly from another website.

Way to delete DOGTRAK

Thanks for deleting an article because the link was about Lobsters. If you had actually read the link at the end, it reference's Turin's tough laws and the dog walking law. Way to ruin wikipedia. 68.102.160.254 07:17, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Normally that sort of thing would return at least one result on Google, yet this returns 0, hence the delete -- Tawker 07:24, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Request 2

Hi Takwer,

The Persian Jews article was unprotected today, but a full-scale edit war has resumed again. Can you please protect it again before the situation escalates? Thanks. —Khoikhoi 07:35, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Talk Page at Marty Meehan

I can't take it to the talk page ther because it is protected. 75.3.4.54 17:06, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Removed from Category

Is it possible to find out if something was removed from a category? 75.3.4.54 17:16, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I was wondering about situation where one day you check a category and it could have 539 articles in it, then you check it the next day, it only has 537 articles in it, and you don't remember everything in the category so you don't know what what removed. 75.3.4.54 17:22, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

This is Moe

Hello Tawker, just thought I would let you know that I was leaving Misplaced Pages, but before I left, I finally got a picture of thyself onto Misplaced Pages. (I know great timing for me to post a picture of myself, right?) This is my final gift to my friends. Later! PS. Try not to laugh to hard at my ugly mug ok? Moe ε 16:48, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Proxycheck

Hi Tawker,

Thanks again for your monobook. I have a problem with the "proxycheck" button, whenever I click on it I get this message:

"Enter username and passowrd for "Misplaced Pages Authorized Users Only" at http://quyme.com

Do you know how I get this username & password? Thanks in advance. —Khoikhoi 07:05, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Modern gnostic mysticism

Hi. You recently removed the {{deleteagain}} tag from Modern gnostic mysticism, saying there had been no previous deletion of that article (correct) or Modern Gnosticism from which it was reinstated (incorrect). You may have been misled by the fact that Modern Gnosticism now redirects to Gnosticism in modern times, which is a bona-fide article.

Modern gnostic mysticism is the reincarnation of the huge load of original research that was deleted by consensus vote. You can see the deletion discussion here. Infomysticism is a redirect to Modern gnostic mysticism and should be deleted too. Thanks, Fuzzypeg 09:29, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Re: User:157.91.114.11

No prob -- I'm not the defensive sort; I imagine someone else will start vandalizing from there soon enough, and perhaps someone at the school will slap them around. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 16:21, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi dude

Can I ask you about the WP:AIV you just dealt with please dude? I just want to know a little bit more detail about why you felt that you couldn't block editing. I'm guessing that it is because you believe the issue of whether or not vandalism is being commited is in dispute? Or is it that you view my restoration of the deleted material as vandalism?--TheMadTim 16:48, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
