Whoever is elected will serve as Governor from 2007 to 2011. The incumbent , Democrat Phil Bredesen, is expected to run for re-election. As of April 12, Bredesen has an approval rating of 56%. The frontrunner to challenge him is Republican state senator Jim Bryson of Franklin.
