Ayn Rand cult
Someone pointed out that you have some issues with the article being speedied, and the cryptic code wasn't explaining much. In short, it was speedied under attack pages due to the fact that I couldn't find a cite whatsoever for any of the noted adherents. Some of the material would be great in the Ayn Rand article but by itself I think its redudant and it'g going to be a POV war magnet, nothing personal, though I get the feeling you're not as new as your account information suggests so I'm sure you understand the policies that we work under -- Tawker 14:32, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- As another note, here was the deletion request "the article is nothing but unsubstantiated nonsense, blatant bias, and attempted smears coupled with racism." posted by another user, not myself, as I said, some of the material would be great to merge but byitself, it doesn't quite fit criteria for inclusion -- Tawker 14:36, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- To note in the article that followers of her creed were primarily white, young men is hardly racism. Her Nietzschean-like obsession with "American values of egoism and individualism", and her opposition to women's rights, is well documented. As for the noted adherents, did you read their entries in Misplaced Pages? Also, I provided a fairly extensive list of references; including two external links with analysis by Murray Rothbard and Michael Shermer. The George W. Bush article is a "POV war magnet", yet it remains undeleted so I ask you to please undelete Ayn Rand cult, irregardless of your personal opinion regarding this very well-documented phenomena. -Dna4salE 15:32, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Hello Dna4salE. I'm not sure why you have contacted me, as I don't think we've ever encountered each other before and I had no connection to Ayn Rand articles, but I think the article you've created is a clear example of a POV fork. We already have articles on Rand and on Objectivist philosophy. The article title "Ayn Rand cult" is pretty definitively POV. There does seem to be some room for describing Objectivism as a movement, as opposed to as a philosophical school (or whatever the hell it is.) I'd suggest an article at Objectivism (movement), or some such. I'd also suggest that you review WP:NPOV before proceeding. Basically, we need to provide all significant points of view on an issue - much as we may dislike Ayn Rand and her followers, we can't just write a hacket job and call it an encyclopedia article. john k 16:06, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I've restored but I've prod'd it per the original speedy request, feel free to make a note on its talk page, I hope thats ok w/ you -- Tawker 16:43, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
Response from HK
Thanks for your note about the Richard Lounsbery Foundation. I didn't respond because I had been banned for two weeks. I plan to discontinue regular editing, but can be reached by e-mail.
I read the article about Misplaced Pages and CIA that you promote on your user page. I am convinced that Misplaced Pages is being used for propaganda purposes, probably not by the CIA per se but by powerful private interests, in a manner analogous to how the major media outlets function. I would like to make an observation, however: this sort of operation is a double-edge sword. Misplaced Pages is used not only to protect certain public persons, as in cited case of Patricia Cornwell, but it is also used to demonize others who are deemed undesirable. I think you may have been an unwitting accomplice in this sort of thing, by repeating the Washington Post line about LaRouche in this edit. --HK 14:39, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
