Mohammed Mushaima (born c.1988, died in Manama, Bahrain on 2 October 2012) was a Bahraini political activist. He died in a Manama government hospital while serving a seven-year sentence for taking part in anti-regime demonstrations. The 24-year-old opposition activist was suffering from sickle-cell anemia and had been admitted to hospital on August 29, 2012 while serving his sentence. Opposition sources say he died due to "torture and medical negligence" by the authorities. His lawyers say they had asked the court to release Mushaima because of his bad health, but the court had rejected their request. Several anti-regime activists have died of various illnesses while in custody and this has prompted Human Rights Watch to call for an investigation.
