Revision as of 19:34, 14 August 2004 by Hajor (talk | contribs) (+map, edit)(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)Congo is the name of:
- The Congo River in central Africa.
- The basin of that river. The Congo and its subsidiaries run through the second largest rain forest area in the world, with only the Amazon Rainforest (much) larger. See: Congo River basin.
- In Vodun, a rather dull and lazy spirit was named Congo.
- A novel by Michael Crichton. For the book, see Congo (novel).
There are also two countries in Africa named Congo, after the river:
- Republic of the Congo – sometimes known as "Congo-Brazzaville", the smaller one in the west, marked green on the map. A former French colony; see: French Equatorial Africa.
- Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) – sometimes known as "Congo-Kinshasa", the larger one in the east, marked red on the map. A former Belgian colony; see: Congo Free State.
