Plot
Ram's younger stepsister, Natasha, and Priya's younger brother, Kartik, fall in love and wish to get married. But Kartik wants Priya to get married first and both of their families recommend that Ram should marry Priya. Nevertheless, after a series of miscommunications and misunderstandings, destiny contrives to get the two married and after marriage Ram and Priya slowly start developing feelings for each other through the small but significant moments they share together. They even go to Australia, on the force of their family, for honeymoon.
Priya and Ram finally realise that they have fallen in love with each other and consummate their marriage. Their relationship blossoms.
But Niharika has other plans to get Priya out of the house by creating misunderstandings between Ram and Priya, as Ram was keeping Priya before her. Priya curious about Niharika's past ultimately finds out that Niharika was earlier married to a doctor named, Dr. Jayesh Karekar and they had kids, Siddhanth and Ishika. But as she wanted more money she tricked Ram's father into marrying her by making Ram's biological mother, Krishna wrong in his eyes and divorced Jayesh. Priya find out Jayesh, who advices Priya to get away from Ram's life and his family, as only then she would be able to expose Niharika's dark ways and Priya heeds his advice. Events force Niharika to bring Priya back home. But before revealing the truth Priya is falsely accused in a case of making poisonous medicines by Siddhanth and is put behind bars for the next 14 years, after her sister, Ayesha states a statement against her, as Ayesha has fallen in love with Siddhanth; but it was too late when Ayesha gets know that she has been cheated by him.
Siddhanth plans to kill Ram by a car accident. Niharika fearing about Ram's death turns emotional and saves Ram by getting in his car. She meets with an accident and dies, but before her death she reveals every truth of her life, leaving Ram shocked.

The Kapoors and Sharmas unknown about Priya's survival assumes her to be dead and Priya plans to leave Mumbai and get away from Ram's life, as this may take him out of all the worries and he may move on. Priya takes Raina to her family in Dubai, where she gets to know that she is pregnant. There she find out a job for herself, to support her coming baby and life.
The story takes a five-year leap. In these years Rajat Kapur, the caretaker of Raina has given Priya a bookshop in a mall on rent, where she sells book. Priya is happy with her five-year-old daughter, Peehu who has same qualities as her father Ram, and Priya thinks her life to be as good as it used to be five years ago. Ram meets Peehu, unaware that he is her father and Peehu has no knowledge that who is her father. In the small time they come close to each other. Priya gets to know it and regrets. She plans to reunite with Ram but steps back after she gets to know about his marriage with Ayesha. However Ayesha gets to know that Priya is alive but keeps shut for the sake of living a peaceful life. While, on the other hand Rajat slowly evolves feelings for Priya (or Pooja) while Priya has none for him.
Priya has to go to Mumbai, after five years, as Kadambari has fled there. But as fate had, there she ends up meeting Ram. Finally, the Sharmas and the Kapoors get to know that Priya is alive but a series of misunderstandings happen with Ram asking for Peehu's custody. Priya frightened with her separation from Peehu fights the case alongside Rajat while she wants Peehu to get both parents' love. But it is because of Peehu that they keep on coming close to each other, starting from her school admission to other jobs related to her. While on the other hand Shipra and Ayesha plan to separate Priya and Ram and let Priya live with Rajat, which annoys both Priya and Rajat, as Rajat does not want to steal her wishes any more knowing what she wants, that is, a peaceful life with Ram and Peehu.
Soon later Priya opens up a new book-cafe in partnership with Rajat, as it may help Priya win Peehu's custody. At the same time Ram starts realizing that Priya cares for him, while Priya gets to know that Ram has changed nothing in his lifestyle in the past five years, starting from their bedroom which she decorated and so on. Ram also starts feeling jealous for Rajat, as he is very fit and handsome and he is a dream boy of every woman and also as Priya might start loving him. ram appoints a dietician named shanaya and trainer to reduce some weight.

The crew was not able to show it and were asked to pack up and head back. Soon rumours spread that Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar were kept under house arrest in Dubai. Later Ram Kapoor clarified saying: "The house arrest rumours are utter nonsense. The only thing which is true is that we ran into some permission problems because of which we had to stop the shoot. And we returned the same night without any problem." Samir Kochhar also clarified saying: "We were shooting for almost a week but later got into some work permit issues. But everything is sorted now."

Reception
Response
—Chahat Khanna (who plays Ayesha) on the five-year leap of the showIt's sure that Bade Achhe Lagte Hain is going to take a leap. However, Ekta will announce this to the media holding a proper press conference. It will be a huge progression for the show, and you can tell it as a re-launch...
Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was very well received by by the audience because of its mature love story and also because of the superb chemistry between its leads. It was declared a "Hit" by many news channels, newspapers, forums and blogs. Co-producer and creator Ekta Kapoor said: "When we started Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, the plan was to run it for only 150 episodes. But fortunately, the show has done well. Now the challenge is: how to take the storyline forward and maintain the freshness?"
The show became one of the most watched show of 2011 and has also made Sony Entertainment Television India number 2 GEC.
Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was also dubbed in Telugu and started to air on Gemini TV from April 9, 2012 as Nuvvu Nachhav or Nuvvu Nachhavu. However, it suddenly went off-air on August 31, 2012 leaving behind an incomplete story, covering only about some 205 episodes.
The plot saw quite a bit of changes and touched new dimensions altogether a few months before the five year leap. And to maintain the freshness of the show and the very good TRPs Ekta Kapoor had to introduce the five-year leap. Post leap, Samir Kochhar plays the role of Rajat Kapur, the parallel male protagonist in the show and the story also took a complete different turn. Post leap some 36 episodes (Episode 102-117) was shot in Dubai. The leap was not well received by majority of the people. Ekta was also told to have received hate mails. She said: "My inbox has also been jammed. Honestly speaking, hate mail can get quite unnerving at times." She even considered taking a six-month season break but she said: "But in India, unlike the West, we don’t have such a structure. Plus, we can’t keep making it dramatic with day-to-day happenings."
