After captain Simão Sabrosa, Luisão was Benfica's busiest player as they claimed their first title for eleven years. He scored two goals in over 2540 minutes of action, including a strike in the decisive game against Sporting Clube de Portugal. He was also a major part of Benfica's UEFA Cup campaign before they were eliminated by eventual winners PFC CSKA Moskva.
