The so-called Wushe Incident (Japanese: Musha Jiken) was a massacre of Taiwanese Aborigines by Japanese colonialists on October 27, 1930 in Taiwan. The incident started at a sporting event that was being held at the Wushe Primary School.

Before dawn the Atayal Chief Rudao Bai had assembled a group of 300 braves and coordinated raids on the police outposts, the postal stations and other colonial Japanese offices. During the raids, the Atayal aquired firearms and ammunition for an uprising against the Japanese.

That morning after the attacks on the Japanes offices, the Atayal braves led by Chief Rudao Bai attacked the school and started killing the Japanese colonialists. During the attack, 134 Japanese nationals were killed, two Taiwanese, and 215 Japanese nationals were injured

The Japanese counter attacked with a much larger conventional force, leading to the Atayal moving to the mountains to fight. In mid November the the Japanese started using poison gas canisters dropped from aircraft on the lightly armed Atayal. On December 1, 1930 Chief Rudao Bai commited suicide. The uprising continued for another three weeks , lasting a total of 50 days.
