The Harlem shake is an internet video craze which began in early 2013. Those videos which follow the meme begin with one person dancing alone in a nonchalant crowd to the titular song, Harlem shake by Baauer, until the beat drops, at which point the camera cuts to the entire crowd now dressed and dancing in a ridiculous fashion.
Numerous commenters have compared the new Harlem shake craze to the outgoing Gangnam Style dance craze.
Internet meme
In contrast to the earlier dance move Harlem Shake, an internet video craze started in early 2013 by blogger Filthy Frank that uses the song. It's not even a harlem shake, rather something akin to having a seizure. Bauers version of the "harlem shake" makes doing the original harlem shake virtually impossible .
