Created by Gordon Rennie and PJ Holden, he is a thinly-veiled stereotype of the action hero popularised by director John Woo, after whom he is named, and is based in the fictional city of Hong Tong. His visual appearance is based on the actor Chow Yun Fat.
Not to be confused with Jonny Woo who is a popular, subversive gay cabaret artiste in Shoreditch, East London and host of Gay Bingo.
Appearances
First appearing in Judge Dredd, he later went on to star in his own eponymous series:
- Judge Dredd (with Gordon Rennie):
- Sino-Town (with PJ Holden, in 2000 AD #1233, 2001)
- Hong Tong (with pencils: Patrick Goddard and inks: Dylan Teague, in Judge Dredd Megazine #209-210, 2003)
- Johnny Woo: A Bullet In The Head (with Gordon Rennie and PJ Holden, in Judge Dredd Megazine #231-233, 2005)
