Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Shortcuts
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Mockingjay (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary pending changes: BLP policy violations – Persistent libel against what appears to be user's classmates. Edits have been suppressed. Ramaksoud2000 22:41, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Toby Turner (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – There has been a constant amount of vandalism from IPs and new users, which, according to the 50 most recent contributions, feature a wide range of vandalism. ZappaOMati 22:36, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Kelly Ayotte (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
temporary semi protection - the page has become a battleground between those championing the senator's "gun rights" support and those wishing to place her opposition to background checks as responsible for the next mass shooting. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 21:53, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Pegasus (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Satellizer el Bridget 21:51, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
James Monroe (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Indefinite pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Page receives weekly vandalism from IPs, both obvious vandalism and not so obvious (changing Monroe's term dates). Chris Troutman (talk) 21:32, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Hypertext Transfer Protocol (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long term deletion of material, test edits and vandalism. At least the last ~25 edits are only vandalism and reverts. mabdul 20:29, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
BK Chicken Fries (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) & The Burger King (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Perm-semi or a long term Temp-semi - An IP hopping edit warrior who has been constantly adding trivia to the article is at it again after the protection ended. Multiple editors besides myself have removed this, but he keeps reposting. I've tried to discuss this on the talk page and explain why this is inappropriate for inclusion, but the IP poster is sockpuppetting via various IP addresses from AT&T wireless and Charter (all assigned in central Massachusetts and Northern Rhode Island) to make it look as multiple editors are chiming in - a clear violation of policy. Obviously, no valid conversation can be had. The contrib has shown that he has no intention of good faith, truly discussing the issue, adhering to our standards of neutrality, or following any other policy of Misplaced Pages. Further he is lobbing personal attacks at me instead of discussing the issue. This is tendentious editing at its worst, and the article really should be locked down. I have also asked for the Burger King article to also be locked because the contrib has actively shown that he will migrate to that article if this one is locked down. --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!) 19:50, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection was recently made for this page, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days. Snotbot t • c » 20:04, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- In response to the bot posting, yes this is a repost. I asked the admin to reconsider the denial and the post was archived before a response was made. I have expanded this to explain why the protection is needed and why the discussion is not bearing fruit due to the IP contrib's behavior. --Jeremy (blah blah • I did it!) 20:25, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Geno Smith (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism following his being drafted by the New York Jets and the controversy surrounding the firing of his agents. Perhaps a brief lockout will help quell the edits though I'm not hopeful. The Writer 2.0 19:49, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
Dizzy Wright (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – High vandalism on a WP:BLP. STATic message me! 19:41, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism since November. IP, usually in 95 range, continually changing height and weight to arbitrary numbers. One IP was blocked yesterday, but another 95 is back today. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:23, May 2, 2013 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP user making changes to sourced content and adding content sourced to unreliable sources. Using Op-eds such as these for historical statements of fact, And is quite obviously misrepresnting othhers such as this which does not even remotely support the content adde as it has no mention at all of a "A consensus of Russian historians". Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Request temporary semi-protection due to disruption of WP:FL page by likely sock of Onelifefreak2007 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Thank you for your time. — Cirt (talk) 13:57, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Also, the user is already autoconfirmed, so semiprotection would not be effective. What about SPI? Lectonar (talk) 17:17, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Full protection: Too many edit wars. I'd like to see this page protected until consensus is reached on the talk page (as various editors keep removing sourced content without waiting for the discussion to finish). MrMoustacheMM (talk) 04:55, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Semi-protection: Persistant sock-puppetry by User:Koov. See Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Koov. TDL (talk) 21:31, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

- Sorry, but did you look at the history? The first article, for instance, has been edited by 5 socks of the user in the past month. Yes the current sock has been blocked, but that only delays the problem for a couple of days until he has a fresh one. He's been socking for 5 years, so it's unlikely he's just going to give up... TDL (talk) 17:38, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- No, I never look at the article histories before making a decision.....that is what makes being an admin so easy......ok, let's get serious: the frequency of the "unconstructive" edits (which are not necessarily vandalism) is not very high, so that would not be a cause for semiprotection, the prospect of having more socking would not be a case for semiprotection because we do not protect preemptively. I see no other way forward but to keep reporting the socks and reverting.....if another admin wants to protect these, they may feel free, of course. Lectonar (talk) 18:07, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, protection is not used preemptively, but I don't think that's the case here. There's a clear track record of disruption that is almost certain to continue unless the article is protected. And right on schedule, another sock has just appeared to continue the disruption. Surely there's a more efficient way to deal with persistent sockpuppetry from ips and newly registered accounts then having to repeatedly revert and file SPI reports (which often languish for more than a week before being dealt with)? I was under the impression that {{pp-semi-sock}} was designed for just such cases. TDL (talk) 20:42, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Current requests for unprotection
ShortcutsBefore posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Current requests for edits to a protected page
ShortcutIdeally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Fulfilled/denied requests
A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Misplaced Pages:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
