Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/History of rugby union matches between Romania and Scotland

Hi,

I have submitted the following article on two occasions and it has been rejected both times. The first version only had one reference, the second version had three references.

I would like to make the following points:

1) There are already 12 Misplaced Pages articles detailing the history of rugby union matches between Scotland and other nations.

2) None of the published articles has more than two references, some have none.

3) Rugby Union is a global sport, played and watched by millions.

4) On that basis the notability of the article is axiomatic.

5) How many references do I need to make this article 'notable'?

I left a perfectly polite message on the talk page of SL93, the second reviewer, similar to above; who appears to have taken exception to my comments and deleted my message.

Could someone please respond to my query.

Thank you.

I passed it as a routine summary/list page - next time please do not use AFC, create the page directly in mainspace. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 16:33, 27 June 2013 (UTC)
Hello, your submission has been accepted by another reviewer. On Misplaced Pages, the term 'notability' references our policy on notability. Your first two points would fall under WP:OTHERSTUFF and in relation to point 5, there is no set number but coverage of the subject should broadly comply with this summary of three of our core content policies: WP:VRS. Thanks

(Imorem (talk) 12:23, 27 June 2013 (UTC))

There is generally a backlog of over 1000+ articles to review, so you may have to wait some time. In the case of your article, a music artist selling 1.2 million copies would probably have reached some sort of chart placing or sales certification, which satisfy criteria 2 and 3 of our notability guidelines for musicians and hence would allow the submission to be accepted. However, we cannot accept such a submission unless the sales claims are verified by a reliable source such as a trade newspaper or magazine, Billboard is such a source in the United States. A further problem is your article is full of puffery and peacock terms, such as "Davido is often seen as a sex symbol." These should simply be removed from the submission. I submitted an article about a week and a half ago and was just wondering how long it takes for Misplaced Pages to review articles. Phil Harris11 (talk) 14:02, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

There is generally a backlog of around 1,000+ articles, and it can take several weeks for submissions to be accepted. In the case of your article, I'm afraid I have had to decline it as it reads too much like an advertisement. You should aim to look for nationwide news, magazine or book coverage that talks about the company, and does so in some depth. Sorry. Ritchie333 16:34, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Sergey Azatyan

This is a borderline case. It really depends whether Marshall Capital (no wiki article, Marshall Capital is unrelated) is significant enough that its managing director has sufficient notability for a standalone page. The submission is 11 days old, so we should really make up our minds one way or another here. Thoughts? --LukeSurl 16:20, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

  • It doesn't look like a borderline case to me, particularly as the article has already been speedy deleted once. I have declined the submission. Ritchie333 16:29, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

The article wasn't submitted for review; I have submitted it for you. However, it will need quite a bit of work, especially regarding the references. The most obvious issue is that Misplaced Pages does not consider itself a reliable source. Also, you should use footnotes to clarify which of the references supports which of the draft's statements - see WP:Referencing for beginners on how to easily create nicely-formatted footnotes. Furthermore, sources such as the New York Times book review that mentioned Schlaifer's name without writing a single sentence about him or his book won't really help. I haven't checked all sources, so some of the others may be better, but you should take a look at what Misplaced Pages considers reliable source - even at a glance many of yours seem problematic.
Regarding the images, for all I can tell they were deleted from the Commons on copyright grounds. There was a reply at the Commons help desk back in March. Huon (talk) 20:57, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

telangana word lists

First of all thanks to WIKIPEDIA team for your quick update. I dissopointed with the feedback(declined) you have given for my submitted article. However , still i respect your reviews/feedback. Let me take an opportunity to give a clarification on my article , so that you will come to know what am i trying say through my article, and if you still feel this aricle will be not at all reaching your expectations, not looks like encyclopedia, diapprove it.

With this article, i want to let telangana people know or to add or to maintain list of words to use. Like there are many articles i see where for example biography of film actresses/actors and their list movies. So, if this kind of data can be allowed into WIKIPEDIA, then as a crazy fan of WIKIPEDIA why cant i maintain my article? The words i am listing in my article are not like dictionary words. Its not my intesion to maintain a dictionary. Kindly let me add my article.

Sincerely, Thanks Shirish Bathini — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shirish Bathini (talkcontribs) 10:11, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately a list of random terms would be covered by what Misplaced Pages is not; in particular it's not a dictionary, not even a Telangana (Telugu?) dictionary. You say they're not dictionary words, but I fail to see the difference between a dictionary and a "list of words to use". Huon (talk) 22:52, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for Creation/Sonia Gechtoff

Hi- The entry for the above does not produce a hit when I enter the name in a search engine. It used to, but does not anymore.

I realize that the person who initially reviewed the article is concerned that there are not enough references, but I truly believe that the prominent facts have been successfully documented. Further, the article comports with those about other artists, including Sonia's husband James Kelly, which I also wrote, so I am at a loss as to what to do.

Please advise on how to correct the problem regarding no hits on a Web search.

Thank you.

Cynthia Cynthiavictoria (talk) 14:54, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

The article is now in mainspace at Sonia Gechtoff (the AFC link is Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Sonia Gechtoff). Its appearance in Google and other search results will depend on when search indexing crawlers do their thing and index the page. But search results shouldn't matter as we are here to build an encyclopedia, and not to get search hits.--ukexpat (talk) 15:05, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Eric A. Spiegel

I'm writing a bio of a U.S. CEO. It has been rejected for not using correct inline citations. However, it's a bio! I'm not referencing any material that requires a citation. The piece is about when he was born, where he went to school, his jobs, the book he wrote and new articles he's been featured in (there are many). What am I supposed to cite inline?

CRHassettVA4 (talk) 16:40, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Take a look at WP:MINREF and WP:BLP. On Misplaced Pages, a bio does need inline citations. Howicus (talk) 16:44, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Submission declined: Benoit Poirier D'Ambreville

My submission has been declined because there is concern that the subject does not have enough notoriety. I have 16 different sources, including from the 3 of the most important women's magazines in Chile - Paula, Ya and Para Ti, plus the most important architecture and design magazine in Chile, ED. When I say 16 sources, I'm only counting the 5 different episode citations once. It is also said that I cite the subject too much. I cite him 5 times out of 35 citations, only to clarify a fact (for instance, two other sources say that he styled hair for the oscars, his says says the exact years). I then also cite him to show the articles he has written about beauty. It's to prove the line "Benoit has written for BC, Infashion, Parati, and I Love Chile Magazines and has contributed to Paula Magazine" which seems an appropriate time to site him.

I'd love some help with this. I want to make this better, but I'm a bit at a loss.

For all I can tell those most important magazines all write very, very little about D'Ambreville; much of the draft's content instead relies on primary sources such as D'Ambreville's own website (which alone you cite six times), his writings (another four times) or events he's associated with (such as the TV show in which he participates, (another five sources, though these are highly redundant). If no third party has commented on D'Ambreville's efforts as a writer, why should Misplaced Pages care? Huon (talk) 22:52, 28 June 2013 (UTC)
I did some tidying up in the article. Ignoring the "about" page on D'Ambreville's website and other primary sources, I count 14 distinct sources in the article. How much coverage is required to establish notability? The article is pretty well referenced, with plenty of secondary sources cited. Verifiability does not seem to be at issue; the only question is whether the subject has sufficient notability for an article.--Srleffler (talk) 07:14, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

How to generate the source / witness...

Question on het article Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Arjan Witte by Doctoreggo: how to create the sources. The problem is that i can hardly find evidence on the Web, since much was created in the 1990's. Another reason is that some info can only be found in newspapers and recordsleeves. In fact i do have them, so evidence is there, but since i am the first source, this input would not be reliable if i would scan and upload in, i guess (?).

Thank you for the effort!,

Grettings,

Arjan Witte a. k. a. DoctoreggoDoctoreggo (talk) 20:35, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

You shouldn't create the sources; you should cite sources that already exist, and the sources need to be published so our readers can verify that they say what they're cited for. They don't need to be available online; print magazines, for example, can probably be looked up in sufficiently well-equipped libraries, and it suffices for you to give enough details so our readers can find them: Magazine, publication date, page number, title of the article, author, ... See also WP:Referencing for beginners on how to easily create nicely-formatted footnotes. Finally, you should have a look at our guideline on conflicts of interest; writing an autobiography is strongly discouraged. Huon (talk) 22:52, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Zsolt Felcsuti

I am writing to you because my article on the above was rejected and I don't know how can i correct it the right way. Please give me some help.

Thank you in advance — Preceding unsigned comment added by Josef.smith1222 (talkcontribs) 22:25, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

There are not enough third-party sources to establish that Felcsuti is notable enough by Misplaced Pages's standards to be the subject of an article. Magyar Hírlap writes little more than a single sentence, and while the FT article is hidden behind a paywall, it looks like a profile of the company, not Felcsuti. All other footnotes are primary sources such as the websites of organizations Felcsuti is a member of. The sources in your "Sources" section aren't any better; an interview is not an independent source, and the others don't seem to cover Felcsuti in any detail. Conversely, I don't see what source supports the "early life" or "personal life" sections. Huon (talk) 22:52, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Damnation Angels

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could assist me with getting this band article created. It has been declined 3 times and many improvements have been made as a result. I have been told that wikipedia has become much stricter recently with band articles, and the main criteria now for creation are publications in well known sources such as magazines or chart success. The band has been reviewed in Metal Hammer Germany (one of the biggest worldwide metal magazines), Fireworks (UK magazine) and Burnn (big Japanese magazine). Should I update the page to include these references, would it stand a much better chance of creation? This is a band who are certainly going to get bigger, but it has proved tricky to find the sources that meet Misplaced Pages's standards.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Mikeywoods89 (talk) 15:30, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

Metal Hammer definitely is a reliable source; I don't know about the others you mention here. Your current sources, however, are largely not reliable, and you should probably remove most of them, especially all the primary sources such as the band's MySpace page, the record labels and so on. I'm not sure, however, whether the band satisfies our notability guidelines at all; if they are going to get bigger it may simply be too soon to write an encyclopedia article on them. First of all, you may want to have a look at our guideline on conflicts of interest; writing about close relatives is discouaraged.
Secondly, whether or not versions of this article exist in other languages is irrelevant; each submission must stand on its own merits, and Misplaced Pages does not consider itslef (or its Greek sister project) a reliable source. Thus calling the Greek version of the article a "reference" will be a mark against your draft.
"Reliable sources" by Misplaced Pages's standards are third-party sources with editorial oversight, sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy, sources like articles in newspapers or reputable photography magazines (about Papadimos, not written by him!) or maybe peer-reviewed scholarly papers. I don't think either of the websites you cite is subject to that kind of editorial oversight. Furthermore, the Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive is a part of the National Bank of Greece Cultural Foundation, so these sources aren't really independent of each other. You'd need to show that Papadimos is more widely written about than the current article suggests. Huon (talk) 21:00, 30 June 2013 (UTC)

How to connect new article in English to the existing article about the same topic in the other language? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ngaetra (talkcontribs) 09:02, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

That should not be done until the draft is accepted as a full article. When it is, you'll see a "Languages" section in the left sidebar, and an option to "Add links". You may want to check out the foreign-language article instead; it may already have a list of linked languages and you can simply add a link to the English article there. See WP:WikiData for more details. Huon (talk) 21:23, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Yet those are not the sources referred to throughout the draft. The reliable third-party sources should be what the content is actually based on, not something added as an afterthought. Huon (talk) 21:23, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/The European Railway Award

Good afternoon,

I drafted an article on the European Railway Award last week.

13:13, 28 June 2013 (diff | hist) . . (+2,230)‎ . . N Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/The European Railway Award ‎

Would it be possible to publish it?

Many thanks in advance,

CERcom

That draft currently is not submitted for a review; you can submit it via the green "Submit your draft when you are ready for it to be reviewed!" button or by adding {{subst:submit}} to the very top. However, it currently doesn't cite any reliable sources that are independent of the subject; we need significant coverage in such sources to establish that the award is notable enough for an encyclopedia article. Huon (talk) 21:23, 1 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer. I submitted it and I also added some press articles to ensure the coverage. CERcom (talk) 12:09, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Tanya "Sweet Tee" Winley

Re: Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Tanya "Sweet Tee" Winley

Hi there:

I'm trying to publish an article on one of the (if not the) earliest female rappers – Tanya "Sweet Tee" Winley. She is the daughter of Paul Winley of Winley Records (http://en.wikipedia.org/Winley_Records).

My article has been declined for the second time; my "references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability," I'm told.

I have included four reliable sources – all books – and allude to Tanya's notability with a comparison of other early rappers. Though her career was short-lived, she was a substantial contribution to the emergence of rap and hip-hop. Moreover, on "Winley Records" Misplaced Pages page, there is a lengthy section on his involvement with rap music, most of which revolves around his daughter, Tanya. I think it's time for Tanya to have her own Misplaced Pages entry.

Is there a member who can review my page who know something about rap music, and who can see the importance of this article? Do I not make it clear enough that she is notable? How many sources are adequate?

Thanks very much. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best, Zoë

Zoechristmas (talk) 17:09, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

At least one of those sources, The Rough Guide To Hip Hop 2nd ed. doesn't seem to discuss the article's subject at all. Can't Stop Won't Stop: A History of the Hip Hop Generation mentions Tanya once in passing, but it doesn't confirm what it's cited for. Unless The Big Payback: This History of the Business of Hip-Hop covers her in greater detail than is apparent, that leaves us with but a single detailed source - that's not enough to meet the "significant coverage" threshold of notability, and I don't see which of the more detailed criteria of WP:MUSIC Tanya Winley is supposed to satisfy. Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Beau Dick

Hello, I recently received feedback on an article I sent in for submission about artist Beau Dick. I was told the sources were fairly good but that I needed stronger ones. I was wondering if I could have some clarification on which citations, or at least what sort of citations, were the problem. This is my first attempt to submit something to Misplaced Pages before so I'm new to the whole thing. Thank you Sionsays88 (talk) 19:20, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

If I understand the reviewer's comment correctly, it's not so much the quality of individual sources (though the various gallery websites are of dubious reliability) but the fact that some paragraphs and sections cite no sources at all, especially the "Exhibitions" and parts of the "Artistry" section. Huon (talk) 21:23, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Unsure what I need to add or change

Hi, I've just attempted to submit my first submission Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Lisa Newman-Morris and it has been rejected. I am not sure what else I need to do to edit it so that it is accepted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Eljaytee (talk) 22:46, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

I've done some copyediting, both to tidy up the layout and to have your references actually be displayed. However, the vast majority of your sources are either not independent (such as, say, Newman-Morris' own website), or they don't cover her in any appreciable detail. In particular, Misplaced Pages does not consider itself a reliable source. What we're looking for are articles in newspapers or reputable sports magazines, sources that are subject to editorial oversight and have a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. Newman-Morris should pass the notability criteria easily, but the content must still be verifiable from reliable third-party sources. Huon (talk) 23:44, 1 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks so much Huon. Would it best best if I just removed most of the references such as Newman-Morris' own website and the wikipedia references? Do I then need to remove that section of text where I've used those references? Really appreciate any more help you can give as this is the first time I've done this. Thanks again. Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Caribbean Journal

Could you explain the "self-references" and the "trivial mentions?" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blackstone12 (talkcontribs) 00:50, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

The first three sources are the Caribbean Journal itself; that's self-referential. The other sources mention the journal only in passing, often in "... said the Caribbean Journal" style, without any detailed coverage. That's not enough to establish that it's a notable publication. For that, we'd need multiple third-party sources writing at least a paragraph each about it. Huon (talk) 03:20, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

The reason for declining is given in the grey box on the pink review template. In this case your draft has no references at all. See Help:Referencing for beginners for guidance on how to use references. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:44, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Review of Articles for Creation/Austin Basis

Is there anybody who could help me with my article (Austin Basis)? I don't know why the article was declined.

Thank you very much in advance.

Jazzy2412 (talk) 13:15, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

If you mean Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Austin Basis (Actor), it currently has no independent sources other than IMDB; which is not considered a reliable source for Misplaced Pages. The individual's large number of acting roles makes it seem very likely that he is notable; you should use newspaper or magazine articles about him, or any TV/movie reviews that discuss his acting in detail, as sources to evidence this notability in the article submission. Article Declined - Reliable Sources

Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Reliable Citations

Good morning -

I recently submitted an article for review that was declined due to insufficient reliable sources. I know that I followed the citation templates and included inline references to online content, press releases and news articles. Can you please help me pinpoint what needs to be amended/added in order to be in compliance?

Thank you so much!

Kacklez (talk) 13:42, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

In your submission Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/First Title & Escrow, only two of the sources provided are independent of the organisation, as far as I can see. This is not really enough to prove the notability of the organisation. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 13:49, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

An AFC keeps turning up with a stub tag

Articles_for_creation/DJ_KIDRAVI has now twice been given {{stub}} and {{orphan}} tags - it's obviously getting into the wrong stream somewhere (and turns up in Category:Stubs waiting to be stub-sorted). I don't know whether it's in the wrong place to start with - I'm not an AFC afficionado, so I hope someone here can sort it out. Thanks. PamD 18:06, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

That draft is in the article namespace; Pol430 moved an earlier version to WT:Articles for creation/DJ KIDRAVI, but it was recreated in article space. I'll notify the author. Not sure what to do about the mainspace draft - technically a histmerge may be the best option, but it seems a lot of work for a very small return. Huon (talk) 18:14, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Request for Reconsideration

Hello! Recently, our submission was denied by your reviewers. The submission is titled Misplaced Pages talk: Articles for creation/Common Career Technical Core (CCTC). The submission can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Common_Career_Technical_Core_(CCTC).

I would respectfully request that someone re-review this submission. This is not an advertisement, but rather a serious submission to document the educational standards in the Common Career Technical Core. This is not a product for sale. Misplaced Pages has published submissions for educational standards before (See the Next Generation Science Standards (http://en.wikipedia.org/Next_Generation_Science_Standards) and Common Core State Standards (http://en.wikipedia.org/Common_Core_State_Standards)). We modeled our submission on both of those previously accepted submissions. We also included outside sources to validate our submission.

Please help us understand how our submission is different from those that you have previously accepted and what we would need to change in order to make our submission more acceptable to Misplaced Pages's standards.

Thank you! Melinda Lloyd Communications Consultant National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc) NASDCTEc (talk) 18:43, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I have re-reviewed the submission and it appears to me that you have modeled the submission more on your own website and associated documents than existing WIkipedia articles. This notwithstanding, the existence of similar articles is largely irrelevant – see WP:OTHERSTUFF. Also, a significant amount of the body text is closely paraphrased from copyrighted web sources, which is another barrier to its creation. As an aside, your username violates our username policy as it both implies shared use of the account and appears promotional. Pol430 talk to me 22:13, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
As an aside, I've been guiding this user on how to change usernames. There's a request in the queue now. --Drm310 (talk) 16:39, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Peter Catterall

I created a page for a widely cited historian who is the founding (and current) editor of an important journal (National Identities) in the field of nationalism studies. I entered a list of books that he has written and linked to some articles about his giving lectures and so forth. But the article was denied. My question is, what would an historian have to do to have his article approved, I mean, aside form writng books and articles, having his books and articles widely cited, and founding a well-regarded journal? Should I list his more important articles, in addition to his books?(Truegood (talk) 20:04, 2 July 2013 (UTC))

Basically we need more about the man himself, what we have now is a list of books by Peter Catterall with a brief intro - but as it is meant to be a biography, what can you add about Peter Catterall the person? Where and when was he born? Tell us about his education, the progress of his career. Is he married, does he have children? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 20:33, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Bobby_and_Jemima

http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Bobby_and_Jemima

Gosh I'm finding Misplaced Pages confusing! Not being that experienced technically it's all a bit mind boggling! I've submitted my first article and it has been declined a couple of times. Now the problem seems to be in the format of writing, that it's not neutral enough. I have really tried to do that but wonder if anyone can help me identify the phrases that are causing the problem. Thank you Kelly LiebermanKellylieberman (talk) 05:26, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

At first glance I can see a major problem - your draft contains material for three separate articles - one about the group and two biographies. If you're writing about the band that's what you should write about - detailed biographies of of each of the members should be separate articles. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:47, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Review of Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Why my article is not selected?

Why my article is not selected?

You have to give us a bit more information - what draft are you talking about? The link in the heading should be to the actual page - "Why my article is not selected?" is not the title of a current draft. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:51, 3 July 2013 (UTC)
The draft is Misplaced Pages talk:Articles for creation/Swami Shree Haridas Ji. As the reviewer explained, it was rejected because firstly it does not cite any reliable sources that are independent of the subject, such as newspaper articles or peer-reviewed scholarly papers, and secondly the tone is hardly neutral and it uses peacock terms - in short, it reads like something written by an adoring follower, not like a neutral summary of the facts. Huon (talk) 12:31, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Getting editors to fix articles

Yeah, I'm kind of new to this project, and I was wondering, well, you're allowed to ask the creator to improve things in the article during your review, right? Thanks! smile-- Numbermaniac (C) 06:33, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Sure you are, though if it's just minor issues such as style edits, those should not be grounds for declining the submission. Huon (talk) 12:16, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi,

I don't know how to get the collum on the right hand side of wikipedia on my article. It mostly has a picture followed by some information. if the article is about a song it will mostly have a picture of the album cover and under it the name of the album/genre/year etc. how do I get a collum like that on my own page?
