301man (talk) 21:36, 28 April 2013 (UTC)I am known as "301man" on Misplaced Pages. I'm new here and learning. I only comment or edit page topics which I am very familiar with or considered an expert. Much thought and research goes into what I do here, so please do not undo or delete my work just because you don't like it. I'm open for conversation and talk about subjects where I am involved. Thank you.

Barnstar, Warm Mouse

Thanks! :) FYI, I'm watching the article, though as I do and check on other things it may dramatically bounce up and down my 'attention scale'. As you might have see me say or just noticed, I don't really write or edit copy, but I can line edit, and mostly try to focus on 'meta-editorial' kind of 'maintenance' things.

If you specifically want me to look at something, you can poke me on my Talk, template:talkback me to more briefly aim me at discussion in a particular place, or just add the page to my 'to do list' for things that are 'mess with this stub sometime'-class. :)

I'm not really an 'expert' on wikiCoding at this point, as I'm only fairly recently actually getting 'involved' in the community and things more complicated than just 'semi-random' factchecking and correction. I know how to do a lot of little basic things that most editors, in their focus on content and copy, seem to consistently miss, though. I'd also love being pointed at articles that do 'interesting' and 'correct' things with code, as I can use them as a reference to non-obvious places in the docs.

An example of what I mean is Rittenhouse Elementary School, a work in progress. The 'nesting' of the infoboxes (it's the NRHP one inside the school one) and the formatting of the EXTREMELY convoluted and extensive citations is all my work, that I recently figured out exactly how to do specifically for that article. Revent (talk) 04:23, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for all the details. I'm so new at this everything you say is a learning experience for me. ;-) There's another new tech device I'm going to look into. I see Google Glass has a page started so I'm going to look into another new device people say may be similar to GG but in my research shows they are NOT that similar. It's another pair of video recording glasses that MAY help Alzheimer patients called Epiphany Eyewear. Have you heard about them? Developed by Vergence Labs out of California. Hey the work on Rittenhouse Elementary School looks good, too. Misplaced Pages can be fun once things get moving forward. I find it pretty amazing; especially when new pages can be added for new technology!!! Again, thanks for your wonderful editorial skills. I will probably call on you again if I can get enough citations for Epiphany Eyewear. Enjoy your weekend. 301man (talk) 14:22, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Epiphany Eyewear

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Epiphany Eyewear, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Misplaced Pages:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. reddogsix (talk) 02:18, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

  • Hi Ignatzmice .... thanks.... I'm fairly new here, and trying to add some new technology. Appreciate your comments. I was researching Google Glass when I came across another style of wearable computers called Epiphany Eyewear. The Epiphany style look better, too. Hope I can get some help with the page. Are you interested in pitching in so it doesn't get deleted? 301man (talk) 04:03, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Erick Miller presenting to the Academy of Arts Foundation.png

Thanks for uploading File:Erick Miller presenting to the Academy of Arts Foundation.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Misplaced Pages's image use policy. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Erick Miller presenting to the Academy of Arts Foundation.png

A tag has been placed on File:Erick Miller presenting to the Academy of Arts Foundation.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Misplaced Pages (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

Disambiguation link notification for May 8

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Erick Miller, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages BCBG and Anderson School of Management (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, 301man. We welcome your contributions to Misplaced Pages, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Erick Miller, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Misplaced Pages's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Misplaced Pages article or website of your organization in other articles (see Misplaced Pages:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Misplaced Pages's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Misplaced Pages when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

Problems with upload of File:Erick Miller wearing Ephiphany Eyewear.png

Thanks for uploading File:Erick Miller wearing Ephiphany Eyewear.png. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or what the copyright status is. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Misplaced Pages, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:05, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for taking the time to post this to my talk page. I'm new here and didn't realize the photo was a duplication. Seems like I tried to fix it and just made things more confusing. Appreciate your help. 301man (talk) 18:49, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi 301man, you don't need to upload multiple copies of the image. Misplaced Pages only accepts images where the copyright holder (usually the person who took the photo) explicitly agrees to publish the image under an acceptable license (such as the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0, GFDL, or Creative Commons Universal Public Domain declaration). If you are, in fact, the copyright holder, meaning you personally held the camera in your hand and took the photo, then these two images are fine. If you are not the copyright holder, then we need a statement of permission from that person. Specifically with File:Erick Miller.png, I note that this is the profile pic from the subject's Facebook page and File:Erick Miller Academy presentation.png is from his Twitter . --B (talk) 22:22, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

May 2013

Please stop. Continuing to remove maintenance templates from pages on Misplaced Pages, as you did to Erick Miller, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, may be considered disruptive editing. Further edits of this type may result in your account being blocked from editing. You have repeatedly made statements that make it unambiguously clear that you are either Erick Miller or someone with a close connection to him. For example, you state that you personally were the creator of the picture that you uploaded as File:Erick Miller Academy presentation.png, and that you are the copyright owner of File:Erick Miller.png, which was "sent to personally". You can't have it both ways: either you have a personal connection to Miller, or else you don't follow him round taking photographs of him, and he doesn't send you photographs of him and donate their copyright to you. JamesBWatson (talk) 08:57, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

JamesBWatson: I am in direct communication with Image Permissions on Misplaced Pages regarding the mistakes I made uploading images. I've only tried to upload images twice, and I made a few mistakes which I tried to fix, but only got worse. I'm new here and need mentors. I removed the COI tag because it was moved to the Talk page where we can discuss your accusations. I have met people like Larry Ellison, Steve Wozniak, John Fry (businessman), Steve Jobs and probably many more named on Misplaced Pages throughout my travels in California. I'm a retired Contractor, and have been in many famous peoples' homes throughout the world. Some I even shared a cocktail with! That does NOT mean I know them personally or there's a COI on Misplaced Pages. When I bumped into Erick Miller in northern and southern California (by accident) I was impressed with how Miller's ideas were being transformed into a possible world changing technology. I have NOT made statements that make it unambiguously clear that I am or closely connected to Miller. Everything stated on the page is information found online or through conversations with people (I realize I need better cites and references - I'm working on it, and as you know, it takes time. I purposely removed some of the statements I made and will replace them once I get confirmed references and cites to post alongside them.). I bumped into Miller a few times... intrigued by his past, present and future endeavors. I heard him speak a few times, too when my wife was in LA attending a conference. He's a presenter or some form of expert for some software based out of (I think) Canada which I still need to research to get the facts straight. Heard he's been all around the world presenting technical subjects which I also need to confirm. Personally, I don't know him well, but believe he's onto something. My wife chatted with either him or his wife, or both, too. I kept digging and discovered he's from Wisconsin. I have relatives there, and some of the kids I know used his books in school! Once bumped into Miller by accident in LA -- snapped a photo. He was presenting to the Academy for some technical art work he did on muscle structure/skin used in films. We chatted briefly, and later I found the piece he made his presentation to the Academy about on youtube.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNCB9wZP8k8 That's the piece of work that was being considered for an Academy Award. So, Miller was there making a presentation to the Academy. That's all I know. I don't know if he actually received the award or not. I know more references are needed. If you can help with the page, that would be great! But having it deleted because you are angry with me for removing your COI tag is not fair. I'm new to Misplaced Pages and finding it very frustrating. I'm spending more time here than researching which is frustrating, too. I'd appreciate your help as a mentor here to advance new pages, not remove them. Here's the article that really got me going .... and the work Miller has done and is about to do in the area of new technology: http://venturebeat.com/2013/04/05/why-wait-for-google-glass-epiphany-eyewear-is-here-now-exclusive/ -- I found this quote on a Misplaced Pages Mentor's page.... It's a good one...... "One of the great strengths of civility is that it helps others to see who is in the wrong - when you answer rudeness with rudeness, it only generates noise that makes it harder for people to properly reprimand the person who started it. Thoughts on the importance of civility from Misplaced Pages's founder

I found this on a Misplaced Pages Mentor's page.... It's a good one...... thanks Cullen328 ....

Some tips

Hello, I responded on my talk page, and will add a bit here. I see that you've picked up some discussions on civility from my pages, originally written by Jimbo Wales, and that you have repeated them here. I am a big advocate of civility, and that is fine and important, but much more than civility is required to be a successful editor here. We are here to build a neutral, reliable encyclopedia about notable topics, summarizing what reliable sources say about a topic. There have been literally millions of attempts to use and abuse Misplaced Pages for promotional purposes, and experienced editors have seen it all, over and over again. Success here requires scrupulous adherence to our policies and guidelines. Articles that fail to comply with policies and guidelines should be deleted. Insistence on that compliance is not incivility. Can you go along with that? Cullen Let's discuss it 03:50, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello Cullen328: Absolutely! I'm all for team work and collaboration! Thanks for the note. I understand completely and research takes time. 301man (talk) 03:55, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
Of course, research takes time. That's why I develop new articles in sandboxes, and don't move them to main article space until I have plenty of references showing notability by Misplaced Pages's standards. That's why no article I've worked on extensively has ever been deleted. Cullen Let's discuss it 04:02, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
I'm having surgery tomorrow. Doc said 4-6 weeks recovery. Hope I will feel like studying more about Misplaced Pages during that time. I was wondering what the sandbox was. So, I'll make that one of my first things to review. In the meantime, I hope more can be added to Mr.Miller's page so it's not deleted. Thank you.... 301man (talk) 04:12, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Emails

For various personal reasons, I have only just read your email asking for a copy of Epiphany Eyewear. I have userfied it at User:301man/Epiphany Eyewear for you. Sorry about the delay. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:32, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

I've just found your latest email. I don't have time now to give it the amount of thought it would take to give a full answer, so I'll try to deal with it tomorrow. I will, however, just answer one quick point now. If a source is relevant to two articles then there is no reason at all why it can't be used on both.

One other point. Unless there is confidential information which you don't want to make public, it is usually best for messages about Misplaced Pages editing to be on Misplaced Pages talk pages, rather than in emails. If there is some reason why you don't want the content you sent me to be publicly visible, then it was OK to email it, but I can't see anything that looks to me to be confidential.
