Raul Cuero Developed a "substance" that awakens the " sleeping genes " of plant cells and generates resistance to micro bacterial attack by increasing protein content. The patent was bought by Vanson - DuPont. His " observations " of the Martian soil led him to discover a way to clean the earth from toxic elements . His valuable research and inventions have given him a solid recognition in the scientific world.
Biography Raul Cuero was born in the city of Buenaventura ( Colombian Pacific Coast ) in 1948 to a humble family. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Cuero Olimpa Rengifo , deceased . Mr. Felix, Raul´s father was a crew member of the Grancolombian Merchant Fleet , a company of which he was retired , which toured much of the world . Cuero recounts in his book "Between the triumph and survival " what has been the story of his life , from many sacrifices in his hometown of Buenaventura , his love to sports , especially basketball, where he was an outstanding player. In the same way , in an interview given to a magazine of the University of Antioquia recounts his experiences in his homeland and his first steps in the study and athletics. His primary studies conducted at the School No. 1 , Ignacio Rengifo of Buenaventura , the secondary Andagoya Paschal College in the same city .
Professional Career
His Professional Studies were conducted at the Universidad del Valle in Cali where he caught the attention of an American visitor was surprised to see what the young Cuero had done to a parasitic plant grown in the laboratory to the dimensions of 13 inches. This opened the door to the United States where he received an scholarship to continued his studies in Pathology at Ohio State University Later on due to his research he was awarded with another scholarship to start his PHD in microbiology at the University of Strathclyde in England. Despite his success abroad, he had always had in mind his native Colombia who frequently visit to promote education and science activities for children. Cuero´s biology directed four synthetic teams in the world in 2006 in IGEM competition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , as in November 2007 was presented in Igem07 with a team formed by Colombian and Israeli student. Among his professional training are biology at the Universidad del Valle ( Cali ) and Heidelberg College . Plant Pathology at Ohio State University and microbiology at the University of Strathclyde.
Between 1980 and 1986 Cuero studied won an scholarship at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland. Between 1971 and 1974 he studied at the Ohio State University on a scholarship too . Between 1970 and 1971 in the Heidelberg College of Ohio. Dr. Cuero has lived half his life in U.S. and Europe and the UK. He has traveled around the world , and speaks four languages. From an early age , Dr. Raul Cuero developed strong affinity for science. Because of poverty had no toys or play time , so animal tracking became his passion. "I was intrigued by cockroaches and lizards behaviors , which were abundant in their environment" Cuero remembers. Because of their deplorable economic and social situation , "I knew early on that I had to be creative , and decided to specialize". This is how Dr. Cuero became an outstanding athlete and scientist. Today is happy that his passion for science and intellectual creativity was stronger than the favorite sport of his youth , basketball , which became one of the best players. During the 1950s more than 30% of children in his hometown Buenaventura died from diseases such as parasites , malaria , tuberculosis and viral diseases before reaching the age of ten years. The life that Dr. Cuero during his early life was ups and downs . Having to think and act , instead of complaining . In order to become a scientist , was the top student in his classes. A scholarship gave him the opportunity to explore the world. So , after receiving a degree in biology he was offered a scholarship to continue his studies in the United States in Biology and Plant Pathology , and later was awarded another scholarship to obtain his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the United UK . The change was difficult, and the loneliness she faced was brutal , but the opportunities to develop to their potential and motivated him to continue to learn even more.
He has received numerous scientific awards and recognitions such as the honor of " Distinguished Professor of Microbiology " for his inventions and creativity. In addition , his constant travels around the world from an early age as an athlete and later as scientific research and / or lecturer , have made him appreciate the importance of the "unknown " and different cultures . So you have a better understanding of life and living . In own words of Dr. Cuero describes " Many , including myself want to overcome our intellectual capacity to survive the pain of being ignorant ." It also states that only through creativity may have had a real sense of belonging and of absolute freedom. Dr. Leather has become a renowned scientist and inventor in the United States internationally. His later work on the biogenesis , has to do with life itself and the unpredictability of the unknown , as he claims. He has written the book " The triumph and survival " based on his 20 years of experience in the field of science , discoveries , inventions and explorations throughout the world .
