Tenorio is an experienced striker known for his heading ability.
However, he has failed to quite live up to his promise when playing for the Ecuador national team. Despite this he has been in the squad at the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups. At Al Saad he has had more success, being the second highest goalscorer behind Gabriel Batistuta in 2004, winning the league title.
He scored his country's first goal in the 2006 FIFA World Cup with a header against Poland. On June 15, 2006 Tenorio scored his second goal of the World Cup with the opener in Ecuador's 3-0 victory over Costa Rica.
