“Khojaly” (Template:Lang-az; Template:Lang-de) – is a memorial monument dedicated to victims of Khojaly Massacre that was carried out by the Armenian and, partially, by CIS armed forces against the Azerbaijani population on February 25–26, 1992. The monument is in Berlin, the capital of Germany, on the area of a reading garden of Gottfried Benn Library in Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough. Azerbaijani artists, Akif Asgarov, Ali Ibadullayev and Salhab Mammadov are sculptors of the monument. Ibrahim Akhrari, an Azerbaijani artist and sculptor living in Berlin, was the initiator and co-author of the monument.
Unveiling
Unveiling ceremony of the monument was held on May 30, 2011. Norbert Kopp, mayor of Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough, Adalet Valiyev, deputy minister of culture and tourism of Azerbaijan, representatives of Azerbaijani diaspora, German community and eminent science and culture figures of Azerbaijan and Germany participated in the ceremony. Cerstin-Ullrike Richter-Kotowski, counselor for education, culture and citizen-services issues of Steglitz-Zehlendorf borough, Parviz Shahbazov, ambassador of Azerbaijan in Germany and Ibrahim Akhrari, author of the monument, made a speech in the ceremony.
Description of the monument
The monument consists of three bronze figures, which means hope to peaceful future of nations. The word “Khojaly” is written on the monument in Azerbaijani language. There is a plate on the pedestal with the following inscription:
