Logan River Academy is a residential treatment center, or RTC in Logan, Utah. The facility has a capacity of around eighty children, including autism spectrum youth.The Logan River Academy has been in operation for 13 years and has served students suffering from emotional, behavioral, and substance abuse problems.
Tuition
The school's tuition is variable, depending on whether private or public money is being used for tuition. However, tuition generally exceeds seven thousand U.S. dollars per month, and children generally stay at the program year-round. General tuition for private parents is eight thousand nine hundred U.S. dollars per month.
Licensing
In the United States, residential treatment centers must be licensed through their state. Logan River Academy is licensed as a residential treatment center through the Utah State Department of Human Services.
Accreditation
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI,) specifies that a residential treatment program for youth should have its residential and educational parts of its program accredited.
Program accreditation
Logan River Academy is a member of NATSAP (National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs). Logan River Academy is an accredited school through AdvancED. Credits transfer to all other accredited high schools throughout the country. Logan River Academy is also a licensed residential program in the state of Utah.
Sports
Logan River Academy students who are interested play on basketball, indoor soccer, and softball city league teams. Logan River Academy had two basketball teams during the winter of 2014 season and will be sponsoring an indoor soccer team in spring of 2014. Logan River Academy staff coach the teams and use the opportunity to work on sportsmanship, learning to be a part of a team, and learning how to work hard.
Criticism
The school has been subject to a campaign of criticism led by Anonymous, the hacktivist group, who allege that the school uses a form of solitary confinement on students. This is denied by the school who say the allegations are "unfounded" and that there is "no basis for the allegations out there". The campaign against the school has used an online petition on change.org as well as campaigning on social media.
