Anil Trivedi (born 6 May 1951) is an Indian social activist and social reformer turned politician. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced him as party's candidate from Indore Lok Sabha constituency. Trivedi has done his MA in psychology with gold medal. He devoted his life for social and political reforms in the year 1974. He actively participated in the "total revolution" movement launched by Jayaprakash Narayan, and spent 19 months in Indore jail during the emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi. He studied LLB Honors from jail and secured first position in the Government Arts and Commerce college, Indore. Anil Trivedi has been working as High Court advocate in Indore and fighting incessantly to secure justice for the tribal, farmers and poor villagers for last 35 years. He has also been fighting for protection of human rights with organization like People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and Narmada Bachao Andolan. He was awarded Kirloskar Vasundhara Mitra award in the year 2012 for his significant contribution in the fields of environment, human rights, agriculture and education.

Early life

Anil Trivedi was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, to Kalawati and Kashinath Trivedi on 6 May 1951. His parents took active part in the freedom struggle of India. Anil's family background played a major role in shaping his views.

Father: Kashinath Trivedi

Kashinath Trivedi worked closely with Mahatma Gandhi Ji, and spent 25 months in the Nagpur central jail. He became the first education minister of Madhya Bharat and the president of congress committee of Madhya Bharat. He was also the President of Madhya Pradesh Gandhi Memorial Trust and Madhya Pradesh Sarvoday Mandal. He was editor of hindi Navjeevan. He translated over 125 books from Gujarati to Hindi.

Mother: Kalawati Trivedi

Kalawati trivedi participated in the Namak Satyagrah (Salt March) in the year 1930. She was beaten by Police in Borsad. Gandhi Ji appreciated her courage in his letter dated 2 Feb 1931. She was arrested in 1933 while protesting in Ajmer and was sent to jail for three months.

Activism and Education

In 1969, Anil Trivedi became a part of Tarun Shanti Sena.. He earned his M.A. in Psychology with gold medal from Government Arts and Commerce College, Indore in 1974.

Total Revolution

In 1974, Anil became actively involved in the total revolution movement launched by Jayaprakash Narayan. Anil was appointed coordinator of the local body of the movement in 1974 and co-coordinator in 1975. Anil wrote many articles against the emergency imposed on 26 June 1975. As a result, he was detained under MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) and sent to Indore Jail. Anil utilized this time to earn his LLB Honors by securing first place in the University. He was released on 22 January 1977 after spending 19 months in Jail.

Narmada Bachao Andolan

Anil Trivedi actively participated in Narmada Bachao Andolan right from the beginning. He led a rally of 10000 displaced villagers on 22 February 1989. He was arrested at the same time. He led another rally in September 1989.

People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL)

PUCL works for the protection of human rights. Anil is associated with PUCL since early 1980s. He was also a member of the national council of PUCL.

India Against Corruption (IAC)

He was active in the Jan Lokpal movement right from the beginning. He invited several organizations to speak on the issue and wrote several articles in major newspapers of Indore city.

Politics

Anil Trivedi fought Legislative Assembly elections from Indore-5 constituency in the year 1977 as the youngest candidate of Janta Party. He was defeated by merely 1000 votes. Since then, he has been fighting for the poor and the downtrodden as an activist and an advocate. In August 1989, he became the President of Janta Dal in district Indore. In 1997, he became a member of the national council. Aam Aadmi Party has announced his candidature from Indore constituency for the upcoming General Elections in April-May 2014.

Social Service as a High Court Advocate

Anil Trivedi has been practicing in Indore High Court for last 35 years. He has filed several PIL (Public-Interest Litigation) and won cases in favor of common man. Some significant achievements are: - Cancellation of notification to bring 29 villages in Indore - Reservation for deaf, dumb and blind people in jobs - Securing Pension for widows of the employees of old regiments - Villagers’ right to collect cow-dung from jungles - Cancellation of additional service charges imposed by MP State Road Transport Corporation - Juvenile criminals were exempted from hand-cuffing - Stopped illegal encroachment of land by Indore Development Association (IDA) - Rectified the process of illegal appointment of political people in twenty point program committees etc.
