Rokin

You deleted Rokin and recreated it with the {{deletedpage}} template; however, you forgot to full-protect it and it has since been vandalised. Can you please fix this? Thanks! Kimchi.sg 07:58, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Help

I created a group to monitor statistics , which was deleted. Can you help retrieve? Geo.plrd 21:37, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

the group was to collect data that could be used to create statistics which could beused to create a better encyclopedia. The group was under construction. I also was looking for a Governance Council to run the group. I can understand deleting the subpage but deleting everything else? That is overkill. Geo. 01:29, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

request to help newcomer on a rare disease

Hi Samir, You are one of the few names I recognized on Category:Physician Wikipedians, probably because of your recent RFA. Along those lines, congratulations!

A new user User:Aunt Amanda has contacted me on my talk (link) and would like to start editing Biliary atresia but has a bunch of questions she left on the talk. Most seem to be basic formatting stuff, but she has asked for "rare disease article mentors". I'm not sure any such thing exists, but you seem like a likely person to know if it does. I'd appreciate any assistance in helping this newcomer get rolling. Cheers, BT 05:32, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject Preclinical medicine

I just had a quick look - I am interested, genetics would be where I can help the most. I am in the middle of exams at the moment - but when I hit holidays I'll be able to give some more time to wiki. (last exam on the 27th of July) In the mean time, if you feel like leaving a note on my talk page as to where I can help out, do and I'll have a look when I get a chance (also have a look at the Gene therapy article for examples of my work - I wrote the viral vectors section.). Thanks, Viridae 10:16, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Interfering with my RfA vote

I would appreciate it if you and/or your friends would stop attempting to change my RfA vote per this . I do not know you and did not know your gender so I chose to avoid making assumptions and instead wrote it as s/he, i.e "she or he". I really don't know why you object to my expressing myself in this way as it is quite common to write various versions of "s/he" when a person is unknown, particularly on the internet where a person's gender is often unclear. The fact this comment has caused you to try to change my comment on more than one occasion makes me question your maturity and whether or not I made the right call when I chose to support your RfA. Please stop attempting to interfere with my vote. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 10:37, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't offended, just irritated because someone else (an IP) did the same thing but also accused me of being ignorant because I wrote "s/he". I just don't understand why it would be an issue to anyone. But anyway, thanks for you reply and good luck with your adminship. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 05:59, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
I'm terribly sorry, Samir. I really didn't mean to cause you to feel that way. As I said before, I was just irritated about it and that was mainly because of the comment made by the IP, and not directly because of you. Thanks very much for the birthday wishes--much appreciated. Ceiling cat

The article has been deleted and will be again. I just restored temporarily to illustrate that the uploader of the cat image wasn't a serious contributor, given that the image has been used for vandalism hundreds of times, I nominated the image for deletion, but I needed proof that the uploader isn't serious and thus probably the copyright license was fake. I will remove the article when the IFD finishes. See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/WP:IFD#June_19 -- Drini 20:29, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Du Bist

Hello Samir. This article has been nominated for deletion, and I have been requested help from User:BigHaz who feels that the nominator may be trolling/pointmaking, given his previous block for trolling and his bizarre arguments on the AfD. As the person who restarted Eurovision WikiProject (this is a Eurovision song)I think it would be out of order for me to judge the actions of the nominator. Blnguyen | rant-line 03:44, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Your block

Samir you were wrong in blocking me. Rajput Chief category is bogus. Do you know the history of rajasthan? Maharana Pratap was no chief. He was an Indian monarch. To call him a chief is working with a denigrating agenda and should not be tolerable to you as an Indian. Similarly ruling clans of India is far more descriptive and accurate for rajput gotra and shakha. It is one person's whim who frankly is a moron when it comes to rajputs and rajasthan that you are supporting. Y not 07:53, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

(reply on talk page): Please reach consensus on talk pages before controversial edits. -- Samir धर्म 08:27, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

(reply on talk page): Please bring up your categorization issues on the relevant talk pages, and refrain from using multiple accounts to revert changes. -- Samir धर्म 08:31, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
I have raised the same issue of wrong categories multiple times. People who are clueless are somehow supported by others who can block people like me (this includes you) without knowing what the matter is. If you would just protect "Dharam" as your signature seems to signify by asking this idiot Impumozhi the same question maybe you will have better luck then me. But do not hold your breath. His response will certainly be idiotic. Y not 08:34, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
You are wrong in reverting the changes that I made today. Why are you not discussing this matter? Y not 08:45, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
(reply on talk page): My knowledge of Rana Pratap is limited to the fact that he was a bold Rajput ruler who rebuffed Akbar and as such, the subtleties of your argument are a little lost to me. I don't necessarily attribute a negative connotation to the word chief, but then again, it is on the previous caveat. Only if you can cite specific documentary evidence to back your claims (that I can evaluate myself, and placed on a relevant talk page) will I consider re-opening the issue. Otherwise, the rolled back edits stand as consensus. Thanks -- Samir धर्म 08:49, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Fair enough. Do this

a) open up google and then enter the following as the search string (make sure you enter the double quotes): "rajput king" "maharana pratap"
b) Do same as a) but replace the word king with chief and note how many hits you get.
I got 124 hits for rajput king and 3 hits for the chief search and of these three none were talking about Pratap. Y not 08:56, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Socks

Samir, you should not be complaining, you are in high favour. Of course, the blocking of an account is entirely passe for our friend, but I have rarely seen him so civil -- its evidently because the sign-link to your talk-page reads "Dharm."

I don't know where to begin on the case, especially while avoiding descent into personalities. It is extremely complex, especially when I consider that I initially started out by supporting him in one of his major battles (he has had many: me, Dbachmann n Zora, Paul Barlow, even Nichalp, etc etc; just try finding anything other than loud conflict on his original talkpage). Maybe reading this page, one of my vain attempts to reason with him, will help you get a start both on his mindset and on my problems with him.

At the time when I wrote that message to him, he was prosecuting a quarrel on the talk:Rajput page. That issue reached Arbitration Committee, where I made this statement. This is my definitive crime, please read this and also the links provided by me in that statement. Following this act, I was subjected to surpassingly vile abuse, with section-heading font of "Impumozhi is a liar" being pasted across Misplaced Pages, with some other write-up. That was the beginning and it has been downhill since. One of my great faults is of course that although I am an Indian, I supported the "Whiteboys" who "talk out of their ass"; that I am a Hindu and insisted on NPOV-ing the more egregious of his edits. Note that your support is also being exhorted on the same grounds: "To call him a chief is working with a denigrating agenda and should not be tolerable to you as an Indian." and again, "If you would just protect "Dharam" as your signature seems to signify by asking this idiot Impumozhi...." I need say no more.

Anyway, the arbcom case (where one side consisted almost exclusively of him and his 3-4 socks) went entirely against him: read this page, other pages it links to, and all associated discussion pages, if you have the leisure and patience. He grandly "resigned" from Misplaced Pages, and has been infesting it with his sock-a-day accounts since then.

Never never am I gonna start arguing with him on any point, so I will not answer his concerns expressed on your talk-page, except to say that this is the first time he made them known! Also that this is both mealy-mouthed and specious. MM because he has been reverting every edit of mine daily, including entirely unrelated pages like National Physical Laboratory, India, Kannada Brahmins and Konkani Brahmins, among several others. Specious because -- I will not get into that. OK, I will. Read Rao Sonag, Rao Doohad and over a dozen others and tell me if this suits "Monarchs of India." Also note that they are in that category, because Category:Rajput chiefs is a sub-category of Category:Indian monarchs, deserved or not. Same holds for Banaphar, Kheechee etc in relation to Category:Rajput clans and Category:Ruling clans of India.

I will conclude by referring you to the advise I recently gave another well-intentioned user: Do not feed the troll. Your comments so far to him have been exemplary, but give over making them altogether. Simply ignore any further comments by him on your talk-page. In all events, please do not ask or expect me to engage any further with him. If possible, please help me contain his vandalism. Best regards, ImpuMozhi 04:52, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

  • Hi, here's a list of the socks-at-large, none of which have had any activity except to vandalize my edits, and this is the category of already banned socks. Maybe later, sometime in the future, you could consider doing the needful to help the homeless accounts find a permanent resting-place in the category. Regards, ImpuMozhi 05:22, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I.M. Rich indef block

Hey Samir. I've shortened the I.M._Rich (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) block down to 48 hours, and explained to him that any further acting out will result in the restoration of his long involuntary wikibreak.

I'm not disputing your call that he deserved the block based on his recent behaviour – which can only be described as completely insane – but he seems genuinely remorseful, he has indicated that his actions were prompted by some recent personal problems, and he's expressed a desire go back to being a useful editor.

If, 48 hours from now, he runs amok again, I'm not going to trim whatever block you think is appropriate. (If I haven't blocked him myself.) TenOfAllTrades(talk) 06:09, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Please do not remove my request

Dear Admin, Thanks for your message. Here is what happend. We had an agreement on the vote we are proceeding. We agreed it is a consensus vote .

You could see clearly the question I posted was to ask whether it is a consensus vote. And the answer is yes.

However, user Yueyuen and Samuel Luo does not respect it. They insisted on posting the non-consensus voting results. Both CovenantD and I have tried to remove the vandalism. However, the vandalism is still going on however we tried to stop it. Please help or advise. Thanks,Fnhddzs 07:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

  • The discussion was about the deadline which was the subject of the conversation in this subsection called “Deadline for 1st paragraph.” --Samuel Luo 07:48, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Sorry I did not understand "if the first consensus opinion was truly consensus, it should be reflected in the straw poll as well", I don't think it is related to my question. People said the vote is a "consensus vote" , that is, everyone has to agree with a new edition for it to update on the page. It is not a majority vote. We did not have a consensus opinion on the 1st paragraph of the article yet. However, a nonconsensus version was posted. Fnhddzs 07:19, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes, we voted on the proposed new version of the 1st paragraph. But not everyone voted agree. So we did not reach to consensus. I do not quite understand 'straw poll'. It sounds like a better idea to wait for each possible editor's opinion. But maybe I am wrong. Fnhddzs 07:28, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

protecting the Falun Gong page

Hi Samir (The Scope), I notice that you just protected the Falun Gong page. The paragraph in question has been discussed for over a week. The version I updated has the majority support when we voted a few hours ago. Fnhddzs is the only one who rejects it even though I have accommodated to all of his complaints. He seems to believe that he alone can prevent any editing on the Falun Gong article. What is the guideline for a situation like this? When something has the overwhelming majority support, is that enough validation for the changes to be made? Or changes can only be made when there is consensus? The protection is nice it gives us some time to discuss the issue further other than fighting a revert war. Thanks --Samuel Luo 07:42, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I request that this be substituted for the 1st paragraph. It is the same wording that exists now, but returns the links to Wiktionary that have existed for months and properly formats the references. These are the only changes from the version that is in place. I've also placed this on the talk page, for any passing admins there. CovenantD 14:49, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Falun Gong, (simplified Chinese: 法轮功; traditional Chinese: ; pinyin: Fǎlún Gōng; literally "Practice of the Wheel of Law") also known as Falun Dafa, (simplified Chinese: 法轮大法; traditional Chinese: 法輪大法; pinyin: Fǎlún dàfǎ; lit. "Great Law of the Wheel of Law") is a system of mind and body cultivation introduced by Li Hongzhi (surname is Li) to the public in 1992. Falun Gong refers to five sets of meditation exercises (four standing, and one sitting meditation). In Zhuan Falun, the Dafa is introduced this way: “Our Falun Dafa is one of the eighty-four thousand cultivation ways in the Buddha School. During the historical period of this human civilization, it has never been made public. In a prehistoric period, however, it was once widely used to provide salvation to humankind. In this final period of Last Havoc, I am making it public again. Therefore, it is extremely precious." In recent years, added emphasis has been placed on the concept of Fa-Rectification.

I've clarified what it is that I'm asking on the Admin's noticeboard. Since you protected the page, I'm hoping that you'll heed the request that has the backing of Fire Star. CovenantD 06:36, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the nice message. Not to worry, I think your actions were appropriate. Indeed, one of my projects for tonight was to send you a note saying that. Hi Samir, thanks for doing the last DYK update, nice selection of articles and hopefully you will continue updating as a "new pair of hands". Just a few minor things to remember: don't forget to archive the previous items from the template to the top of Template_talk:Did_you_know#Archive, including a link to the featured image in parentheses; images hosted on commons should be uploaded locally to WP if they're not protected on Commons, and tagged with the {{C-uploaded}} template; don't forget to actually protect the image and unprotect the previous one that's just been replaced (or speedy delete it if it was C-uploaded). I've fixed these bits and pieces, so no need for you to do anything, just wanted to let you know for your next update !!! Cheers. --Cactus.man 12:59, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Samir, the account was inappropriately blocked. The above linked RfAr just closed and confirmed that to be the case. I am also requesting the account to be unblocked, but can't do it on the user talk page because it is protected. This request was removed last night by Admin pgk who is pursuing me and can't accept the result of the RfAr because it proved his falsehoods wrong.
