Father: Kashinath Trivedi
Kashinath Trivedi joined Sabarmati Ashram of Gandhiji in 1927 as editor of Hindi Navjivan, and was responsible for translating most of Gandhiji’s original Gujarati writings in Hindi, including his autobiography – My Experiments with Truth. Kashinath Trivedi was imprisoned for 25 months in the Nagpur central jail during the Quit India movement. Following India’s independence, he became the first education minister of Madhya Bharat and the president of congress committee of Madhya Bharat. He quit active politics in 1952 to involve himself in the Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s Sarvodaya and Bhoodan movements. He set up Gram Bharati Ashram in Tavlai in 1952 – to work to bring about Gram Swaraj and to run a school for children from tribal areas. Known as the Gandhi of Nimar, he was the first to oppose the Narmada Dam project, which subsequently developed in the Narmada Bachao Andolan. A prolific writer, editor and translator, he translated 125 books from Gujarati to Hindi including the collected works of Gijubhai Badheka, and edited the homage volume to Jaiprakash Narayan and Vinoba Bhave.
Mother: Kalawati Trivedi
Kalawati Trivedi joined the Sabarmati Ashram with her husband in 1927, and took part in the protest following the Dandi Salt Satyagrha March 1930. She was beaten by Police in Borsad. Gandhiji appreciated her courage in his letter dated 2 Feb 1931. She was arrested in 1933 while protesting in Ajmer and was sent to jail for three months.
