Robo Shankar is a Tamil stand-up comedian who has also appeared in character roles in Tamil films. He made his breakthrough with STAR Vijay's Kalakkapovathu Yaaru performing stand up comedy. He is a now cast regular on several shows on STAR Vijay and has presented television shows for the channel. He visited and performed stage shows in more than 30 countries.

Career

Before entering into STAR Vijay television he was a bodybuilder. He was a gym master in Madurai for 7 years, winning "Mister Madurai", "Mister Tamilnadu", "kamarajar university bodybuilding champion", "All India inter university bodybuilding participant". His ambition was to work in ICF where he couldn't make it due to his family situation. He ran a sugarcane juice shop during exhibitions and worked as a sack lifter in Madurai market to cover his own expenses. He also did many stage shows simultaneously. He was named as Robo Shankar when he made his debut "Robo Dance" with his silver painted body and body muscles dancing separately according to the music.

Robo Shankar made his breakthrough with STAR Vijay's Kalakkapovathu Yaaru performing stand up comedy in 2007. He participated in Season 6 of the dance competition Jodi Number One in 2013, finishing in third place alongside his partner Sandhya, though he earned criticism from viewers for being vulgar. He is a now a cast regular on several shows on STAR Vijay including Jodi Number One and Adhu Idhu Edhu, "Airtel super singer Celebrity Season"and he has presented television shows for the channel.

He has also appeared in films, playing supporting roles in Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (2013), Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014) and an upcoming film "Yatchan" amongst other appearances.
