Flag ratio: 1:2

The flag of the Falkland Islands was adopted on September 29, 1948. It is a Blue Ensign with the Union Flag in the canton and the Coat of Arms of the Falkland Islands superimposed.

Prior to 1963, the flag was also used in British territory which is now administered as British Antarctic Territory. Prior to 1985, the flag was also used in South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands when that territory was a dependancy of the Falkland Islands. During the Falklands War, when Argentina occupied the islands, the flag was banned and in its place the Argentine Republic's flag was raised.

The Argentine Tierra del Fuego flag

Argentina claims ownership of the Falkland Islands, which it calls the Malvinas, regarding them as part of Tierra del Fuego Province. The Argentine government thus regards the flag of the Malvinas to be the flag of Tierra del Fuego.
