Has enough time passed that I might be allowed to return? I will adhere to any restrictions that you want to impose. --GoRight (talk) 00:58, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

I will point out that in your block history that you have been unblocked 3 different times based on the condition of you behaving and those were all prior to your ban. What exactly will be different about the 4th time? Chillum 01:01, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
I understand the concern. I admit that my history is not good. It has been 4 years since I was banned and 3 years since my last appeal. I have made my apologies to those that I have wronged during the last appeal (off wiki) and have left them on public view since that time.
4 years is a long time to reflect. I believe that I have truly learned my lesson and I understand that any return to controversy will be a certain permanent ban. I learned that socking and dishonest behavior will only bite me in the end. I shall avoid such mistakes in the future. I shall not abuse the message boards. I shall avoid contentious interactions, especially with anyone with whom I have had a checkered history.
I have not edited on other projects in the interim. So I have no way to demonstrate that I can behave other than to be given yet another chance. I understand that any such chance will entail a short leash and will have final consequences should I stray from a good path. --GoRight (talk) 01:19, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

Here is the discussion thread from my previous ban appeal. --GoRight (talk) 02:03, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

Yes I remember that discussion very well, and the one leading to your ban and several discussions before that. There were a lot of such discussions back then.
If you want I can post on the administrative noticeboard that you are asking for a community ban appeal, if there is a consensus to unblock then it will be done. If this sounds okay I will post there for you. Chillum 02:23, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Heh, not sure if you remembering so long ago is good or bad.
I tried sending a request to BASC about a week ago but I used the arbcom-1 email list which I now know was no longer correct. I have not received any response from them so I decided to try here instead. Likely they would just do the same as before so let us once again go to the community directly. This is where it all started anyway. I won't get anywhere if people still object and no one is willing to offer another chance.
Please go ahead when you have a chance and thanks for your assistance. --GoRight (talk) 02:45, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

Okay, here it is: Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard#User:GoRight_seeking_return_from_community_ban. Chillum 02:52, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. At the last appeal I purposely stayed off wiki to demonstrate that I could avoid the drama and the controversy. I believe that this is a change from my previous behaviors. I responded to that proceeding off-wiki as a means of trying to atone for my prior behaviors. I believe the fact that I have stayed totally off wiki for so long can be taken as a confirmation of my sincerity.
I intend to follow a similar path this time as well. I will simply let the discussion run its course without creating any additional drama from here. If anyone has a direct question for me they can ask here on my talk page and I will address it here.
Since the Misplaced Pages Watch blog may be discussed I would like to point out that I stopped posting there more than 2 years ago, although I may have updated a few links since then to point to the archived discussions. I think that this too can be viewed as a sign that I have let go of the past. --GoRight (talk) 03:13, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

I have some questions related to your request if you don't mind.

  • Will you edit articles concerning climate change? Why or why not?
  • What areas of Misplaced Pages do you plan to work on should your ban be lifted?

Thanks. Gamaliel (talk) 19:14, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

While I would obviously prefer to not have a restriction placed on me (as would anyone), as I said above I will adhere to whatever restrictions are placed on me. Aside from the two or so months that lead up to my ban which was an extraordinarily contentious time frame and obviously my socking which happened after the ban, I have a good record of respecting the formal restrictions that were placed on me (i.e. to not edit topics related to William M. Connolley). This is the only formal restriction that was ever placed on me to my recollection. I can be trusted to honor my restrictions should I be unblocked.
My primary interest in asking to be unbanned is unrelated to climate change articles. I do not intend to be frequenting the climate change pages at all for the foreseeable future, if unbanned. Doing so would only be a recipe for a quick and final ban. If I wish to regain a lasting freedom I must give such topics a wide berth for certain. If I were ever to try and return to such topics it would only be AFTER having a solid history of good productive behavior elsewhere.
I do not anticipate becoming a hugely prolific contributor. Mostly even today random topics will spark my interest and I will come here as a first source of research material. At times I discover items that would make good additions and I would like to be able to contribute such information to the project. At other times I find poorly worded or structured passages which I think could be improved but of course I am currently prevented from doing so.
My interests vary widely. I have not been following climate changes topics much over the past couple of years. I do follow political topics such an abortion, gun control, religious freedoms, supreme court rulings and the like. I also visit topics related to movies, TV shows, musical artists or various genres, etc. In all of these cases I would be inclined to restrict my activities to making small but important contributions and/or performing various article cleanups and maintenance.
One of the suggestions at the discussion where I was banned was to take up helping with the list of articles that need improvements. I might try my hand at some random articles gleaned from that list as well, time permitting. To be clear though, this is not an explicit promise that this is solely or significantly my intended area of editing.
Hopefully that answers your query. If not please just follow up. Thanks for taking the time to inquire. --GoRight (talk) 22:40, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

Participate in discussion?

It is not unheard of to unblock a user so that they may participate in a discussion about them. If you are willing to promise that you will only edit your own talk page and the thread Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard#User:GoRight_seeking_return_from_community_ban then I would be willing to unblock you for the duration of the discussion.

Unless a consensus to unblock you is reached by the end of the discussion the block will be reinstated. If you edit anywhere else for any reason at all your block will be re-instated.

How does this sound to you? Chillum 19:24, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

It is a gracious offer under the circumstances. I understand that you are not supportive of my return but I appreciate your assistance none the less.
My initial reaction is to decline as I prefer to stay off the notice board, but it occurs to me that this offers at least a minor opportunity for me to show that I can now be trusted ... at least for the short duration of the discussion. So fine, if you are willing please unblock me. I will stay within the bounds you have set out. --GoRight (talk) 22:53, 12 July 2014 (UTC)

You are wise to realize that how you choose to act on the noticeboard could help or hinder your case. I have unblocked you, please do not abuse this trust I am giving you. Chillum 00:03, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

I am reconsidering my request. Enric continues to misrepresent my statements from when I unified my login. I cannot respond without looking like I want to come and cause further disruption. I have never made a commitment to work on other wikis despite what Enric would have people believe. When I came here I explicitly stated that I had not edited elsewhere in the interim (meaning since my last appeal). Now he is trying to suggest that I have made some grand claim of working elsewhere which I never did. He is simultaneously claimng that the little that I did edit elsewhere is both meaningless and also damning evidence of how I am falsely claiming some grand achievements. It is very unfair to do so.
There are a large number of criminal offenses for which serving 3 years with good behavior would be considered having paid one's debt to society. I guess that the same does not apply here. People are acting as though these past three years have never passed. This is a sad reality.
I have attracted a couple of statements of support for which I am grateful, but there appear to be many who cannot move beyond the past. I honestly don't know what people are thinking I can possibly do to cause problems at this point. Any transgression or misbehavior will be immediately used to reinstate the ban and make it permanent. There really is no realistic way for me to cause problems.
Please reblock my account and withdraw my request for an appeal. I don't wish to drag this out further. Many thanks to those who were willing to give me another opportunity. --GoRight (talk) 14:52, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
Both the reblock and the discussion closure have been done. NW (Talk) 22:54, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
