Telephony

Fixed telephony

  • Telephones - main lines in use: 177,663 (2005)

Services provided by Telecom Montenegro (Owned by Magyar Telekom), which has a monopoly in operating fixed telephone lines.

Mobile telephony

  • Telephones - mobile cellular: 543,220 (2005); 580,000 (May 2006)

Services are provided by twho GSM operators, ProMonte (Owned by Telenor) and Monet GSM (Owned by Telecom Montenegro). Both providers have national coverage, and provide advanced services. Third provider is rumored to start service, and 3G telephony is expected to begin in 2006.

Number of users of mobile telephones varies from 550,000 to over 600,000 during summer months.

Internet

  • Internet users: 50,000 (2004)

Internet services are provided mostly by Internet Crna Gora (Owned by Telecom Montenegro). In addition to dial-up acces, in 2005 it started offering ADSL service.

Broadcast

  • Radio broadcast stations: 31 (2004)
  • Television broadcast stations: 13 (2004)

RTCG is the state-owned public broadcaster with nationwide coverage. Other privetely owned television broadcast stations mostly cover major cities in Montenegro.
