She has acted on film and television. She appeared in Django Unchained and several other films, including short films.

On television, she has appeared on How I Met Your Mother, Greek, Cold Case, Detroit 1-8-7, Criminal Minds, Private Practice, 90210, Castle, Melissa & Joey, Weeds, and Partners.

Personal life

She is in a relationship with Brian Lucas, a chef.

LAPD incident

On September 13, 2014, Watts came to prominence during the media attention regarding her handcuffing by an LAPD officer at Studio City, Los Angeles. According to her account, she was being falsely mistaken for a prostitute, while with her husband. The police later released the audio records of the incident. The audio and the witnesses' accounts suggest that Watts was having sexual intercourse with her husband in public. The officers interrupted them and asked for an ID. Watts accused the officers of targetting her because she is black and told the officers that they ought to speak with her publicist. She refused to give her ID and was cuffed. After her husband decided to give his ID, they were both released. The officer say they were responding to an anonymous complaint about lewd acts in public.
