Men, Women & Children is a 2014 American comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman co-written with Erin Cressida Wilson, based on a novel of the same name written by Chad Kultgen. Featuring an ensemble cast, with Rosemarie DeWitt, Jennifer Garner, Judy Greer, Dean Norris, Adam Sandler, Ansel Elgort, and Kaitlyn Dever, the film screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2014.

The film opened in limited release on October 1, will expand on October 10, and have a wide release on October 17.

Plot

A group of high schoolers and their parents attempt to navigate the many ways the Internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives.

Cast

Production

By September 4, 2013, director Jason Reitman was about to add Adam Sandler, Rosemarie DeWitt and Jennifer Garner for the lead roles in his next comedy film. By December 16, Emma Thompson, Judy Greer and Dean Norris were cast. The young cast includes Ansel Elgort, Kaitlyn Dever, Elena Kampouris, Travis Tope, Katherine Hughes, Olivia Crocicchia, and Timothée Chalamet. Other stars are David Denman, Jason Douglas, Dennis Haysbert, Shane Lynch, and J. K. Simmons. Will Peltz also joined the cast of the film on December 17.

Release

The film premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2014. The film will have a wide release on October 17, 2014, with a limited release on October 1, 2014 and an expanded release October 10, 2014.

Reception

Men, Women & Children has received mixed to negative reviews and has a rating of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 57 reviews, with an average score of 4.7/10. The consensus reads: "Men, Women & Children is timely, but director Jason Reitman's overbearing approach to its themes blunts the movie's impact." The film also has a score of 36 out of 100 on Metacritic based on 26 reviews, indicating "generally unfavorable reviews".
