Jenner & Block is a U.S. law firm with offices in Chicago, Dallas, New York, and Washington, DC, active in corporate litigation, business transactions, and in the public sector. In 2005, the firm received the "Legal Service Award" of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty for its work with death row inmates, and in 2006 it was named one of the top five litigation departments in the United States by the magazine The American Lawyer. In 2012, it was listed as one of the 20 most elite lawfirms by the magazine, with inclusion on it's A-List for revenue generation, pro-bono commitment, associate satisfaction and diversity representation. The firm was also named in 2012 in the Chambers USA Award for Excellence as the top law firm for media and entertainment litigation.

History

Founded in 1914, the firm was known from the 1920s to the 1950s as Johnston, Thompson, Raymond & Mayer. After Albert E. Jenner became a partner in 1965, he established Jenner & Block's longstanding relationship representing General Dynamics. The name of the firm was changed to Raymond Mayer Jenner & Block in 1964 after Samuel W. Block became a name parter. In 1969, it was shortened to its present title.
