Instead of adding {{Arabic}}, why not add the Arabic title itself?

When an article has an interwiki link to ar:, chances are very high that the title of the Arabic article is the requested Arabic spelling of the original title. --tyomitch 15:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Regarding Reservation in India

Hi. I saw your query on Bhadani's talk page, and could not resist giving a go here. I hope you would not mind. :) The government's policies for reservation are highly controversial, given that the public in India is very very sensitive to public policies. Many of the people here (in India) believe that the hiking of seats and reservation for the OBCs (Other Backward Classes) is only a political ploy to attract votes, while the government insists that the OBCs are econimically backward and they need the government's help. There have been mass protests against this proposal by the government. There are anti-policy demonstrations all over the country (which have been widely covered by the media). I personally, believe that reservations will only reduce the quality of the students that are churned out of the system, because due to all this the students who do not deserve to be a part of an institution would get in without merit due to reservation through their castes. And also that, the creamy layer system has not been established by the government, that keeps economically good classes at bay from the OBC reservation. Hope you find this helpful! --Andy123 talk 12:11, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

I too couldn't resist chipping in here :). Bhadaniji's talk page seems to be quite famous. If you are interested in knowing more about the group of students leading the demonstrations, you can visit their official site here. Feels good to know that people from around the world are trying to know more about this issue. - Aksi_great (talk) 18:04, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

World Cup squads

Hi. Nice job on the flag updates. However I wanted to let you that it was my intention to do the squad pages not only as rosters but also as final rankings since the groups format is on the regular World Cup pages but the final rankings are not. The final rankings are a seldom seen curiosity I had hoped to provide as adouble to the lineups. Let me know what you think, since it was my intention to do all the squad lists from 1930-62. Blnguyen's RfA

File:Atlanticpuffin4.jpg Hello Darwinek. Thank you for your support and gracious comment (If you want to read some real articles about the suburbs of Adelaide User:Beneaththelandslide has a few FAs about Adelaide suburbia listed on his userpage)at my request for adminship which ended at the overwhelming and flattering result of (160/1/0), and leaves me in a position of having to live up to a high standard of community expectation. You can see me in action and observe what then happened as a result. Naturally, if I make any procedural mistakes, feel free to point them out. I look forward to working with you in the future. Re:Question

You to me: Hello. Apart from being a Misplaced Pages administrator, I am also a university student of politology. I would like to ask you, cause you are Indian, what do you think about current anti-reservation debate. On which side do you stand? Thank you. :) - Darwinek 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Me to you: It is nice to hear from you after so so so long. I shall surely open up my mind on the matter - however, not in a public place, as the issue is really sensitive. In case, you send me an e-mail, I shall surely give an exhaustive reply. --Bhadani 27 May 2006 (UTC)

pix

I saw the picture of Paul Bremer you uploaded.

Personally, I like to give the URL to the page that contains the pic, as well as the URL to the picture itself. I include the original caption on the image page too. I see it as a courtesy to the photographer, who may not have any rights, if they were a federal employee, taking the picture as part of their job. But, as a courtesy, we can still give them credit.

In addition sometimes a .mil or .gov site will liscense a picture from an external source, and we don't have a liscense to re-issue those under a free liscence. -- Geo Swan 22:33, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

yeah, i didn't do it at first either... -- Geo Swan 22:50, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Mount Hermon

Hi Darwinek, I wasn't quite sure which parts of the Mount Hermon article you thought needed sourcing. I'd appreciate if you could take a few minutes to point out the appropriate passages. Cheers, Tewfik 05:27, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Czech National Revival

Hello .. this is a request for help .. could you please look at the Czech National Revival and Josef Jungmann articles. I created them recently, and I would like someone to read them and maybe point out some grammar/spelling errors I might have left there. Thanx ackoz 16:06, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

German Translation

A while back, you requested translation of a German article dealing with a long-named reservoir in South America, and I'm telling you that I have pickedd it as the next article I will translate. I won;t get to actually doing it until tomorrow though. When I'm done, I'll post the link and you can tell me what you think. Stub sorting

Hi old friend :) This sounds like a good proposal. Someone was counting the football stubs - User:Alai, I think. Either contact him or just propose it at WP:WSS/P, see what happens. Someone may bite :) Sadly my own Wiki-time is pretty stretched at the moment, otherwise I'd have a look myself. Grutness...wha? 06:44, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Thanks. It was nerve-wracking, but it was great. Now all we have to do is draw with England and beat Paraguay :) Guettarda 18:10, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

My RFA

Darwinek, thank you very much for your support in my recent Request for adminship, it passed with a final tally of (65/3/3) - which I find both amazing and humbling. I wish I had time to thank everyone personally, but I'm afraid all I can offer is this token of my gratitude. I hope to live up to your expectations/hopes. If at any stage you need to contact me, for help or a request or to point out a mistake in my conduct, please make sure to tell me on my talk page. --Fir0002 08:33, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Categories

I was wondering what category you would suggest for conservation-based NGOs - I just added Pointe-à-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust, and there's the Asa Wright Nature Centre - so there now are two of them. I'm not sure what most countries use - either then could go into a Conservation in Trinidad and Tobago cat, or they could go, together with the Scouting article into a "Civil Society"/Organisations cat (not sure if other countries use something of the sort). Any thoughts? (Sorry to see the result in the Ghana match. I'm quite conflicted - I like the Czech Republic and hoep they do well, but I'm always happy to see an African team do well. Hope you beat Italy convincingly - my wife says I have to support USA, so I am hoping for the Czech Republic and USA to get through, though I would be ok if Ghana got through instead of USA). Guettarda 14:59, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, and yes, she is American. Good luck against Italy. Hope your summer's going well. Guettarda 18:13, 18 June 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to WP:LAKES

Hi Darwin. I just wanted to stop in and welcome you to my little pet project! I am more-or-less a novice with some of the advanced functions of the Misplaced Pages (as are most of the other participants of our project), so someone with your experience would be a huge asset to the project. I will likely have a limited internet-presence over the next 4 days, so if I don't respond to your comments or queries right away ... well, now you know :D. Anyway, it's 10 minutes to 4 am where I am, and my night-shift is almost over, therefore I am very tired and probably rambling somewhat incoherently haha. Take care, and again, welcome to the project. Em3rald 10:50, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

  • I think targetting some of the poorer countries is a good idea. Or at least non-english countries because they are very much neglected. One could make an interesting observation: Rich countries generally have more fresh-water lakes than poor countries. Also, I think the categorization scheme for lakes needs cleaning up, so if you are a whiz with figuring out categories, then you are certainly welcome to help with that. Otherwise, I figure just do whatever you like. Anyway, I really am getting tired. I better stop all my rambling until I get some sleep. Take care! Em3rald 11:10, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks for your work on categorizing lakes! See, I knew I asked the right guy. The problem is some of the "instruction pages" for wikipedia are difficult to understand (or even find sometimes), so I was just trying to figure it all out as I go. But now you've set me straight :D thanks! As far as mountain lakes is concerned, I have thought about maybe changing it to Alpine lakes instead. This might help clarify it a little. Ultimately what I would like to see is somehow sorting Alpine lakes by region (country, state, etc). So people could look up maybe, Alpine lakes of Alberta or perhaps Alpine lakes of Chile.
But yes, thanks very much for your assistance. I will figure this categorization thing out yet. Em3rald 20:20, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

A short Esperanzial update

As you may have gathered, discussions have been raging for about a week on the Esperanza talk page as to the future direction of Esperanza. Some of these are still ongoing and warrant more input (such as the idea to scrap the members list altogether). However, some decisions have been made and the charter has hence been amended. See what happened. Basically, the whole leadership has had a reshuffle, so please review the new, improved charter.

As a result, we are electing 4 people this month. They will replace JoanneB and Pschemp and form a new tranche A, serving until December. Elections will begin on 2006-07-02 and last until 2006-07-09. If you wish to run for a Council position, add your name to the list before 2006-07-02. For more details, see Misplaced Pages:Esperanza/June 2006 elections.

Thanks and kind, Esperanzial regards, —Celestianpower 16:00, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

My reward

Thanks a lot, it took a while for me to complete my goal of having articles for all the stations. I'll probably now read through all of them and correct any errors and/or problems that might have slip through the cracks. I might also get information on stations on abandoned lines and try to add that to Misplaced Pages.

GSE

Hi, Darwinek! I did know about GSE (although I usually access it through Yandex, but thanks for keeping me in mind and dropping me a note. Just so you know, GSE's PD status is not without controversy, but it is still great for some fact-checking. Hello! I noticed that you corrected some of the formats for flag icons on some of the national football team pages. I didn't mean to create work for you to have to go back and reenter the links in those battle articles. I'll try to leave those red links alone from now on. Cla68 14:28, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

WWII history has been one of my main hobbies since I was in elementary school. It's still just a hobby, my occupation has nothing whatsoever to do with history. But, Misplaced Pages gives me a place to do something useful with what I've learned in my hobby and to work with others to bring (hopefully) informative and illustrated articles about events and people in history to the Web for anyone to read and learn from, and to provide a list of sources from which they can go to learn more about the subject in greater detail if they desire. Perhaps you've found some of the same satisfaction through the many articles you've put a lot of time into? Cla68 01:31, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Your wholesale change of "transportation" to "transport"

Most of these changes will need to be changed back. Before I do that, I'd like to ask why you made the changes in the first place. Thanks in advance. --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-17 14:30 (UTC)

Hello. I've done that because, if I am right "transportation" is a term used only in United States and its dependencies. However, there seems to be a consensus on this, so before reverting it, look at WP:CFD, where is currently a debate on mass renaming categories in that way I done with main articles. - Darwinek 14:38, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

There is most certainly not a consensus on this! Moreover, you seem not to understand the difference between the guidelines that apply to countries where English is the primary (or official) language, and those where it is not. Please read, and respect, the following:

Advice: English dialects on Misplaced Pages: Misplaced Pages has millions of readers; some use American English, or British English, or any of numerous other local forms from Australia, Canada, Ireland etc. Because of this, Misplaced Pages has a policy of respecting articles written in whatever form of English the original author of the article used.

The guidelines are simple. For subjects exclusively related to Britain (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. If it is an international topic, use the same form of English the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to the other, even if you don't normally use the version the article is written in. Respect other people's versions of English. They in turn should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Misplaced Pages articles are written can be found in the Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style. If you have any queries about all this, just ask anyone on Misplaced Pages and they will help you. Thank you. --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-17 14:43 (UTC)

Do whatever you want but if all categories (instead of U.S. and related) will be renamed to "transport" form, then the articles will be turned back to "transport" for consistency. It's only a matter of time. Change and progress is main sign of Wikipdia. Many "original authors" named articles or categories wrongly and it have been changed after consensus long time ago. Also if you have a bad day, quit Misplaced Pages and don't be harsh on other users. - Darwinek 14:52, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

1. Would you mind keeping the discussion at this page? Easier for others to follow it. (See top of my talk page.) 2. I'm having a great day, by the way! Sorry if you felt I was being harsh! I'm just trying to make sure that Misplaced Pages progresses. And I honestly do think you are confused about WP guidelines about spelling. --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-17 14:59 (UTC)

In User:Cultural Freedom/CFWPOJ you have written "And he's been making other changes as well" . Which other changes? - Darwinek 15:33, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Soccer --> Football. But that's much less questionable!! I'll make sure CFWPOJ reflects that! (Sorry-- I'm working on that page right now -- should have used "Preview" more often!) --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-17 15:37 (UTC)

By now, I hope you've read the policy on national varieties of English. Could you please revert your own policy-violating (sorry, that sounds harsh! but it seems most accurate!) changes? Thanks! --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-17 16:13 (UTC)

I see you've added yet more requests for South America! I was hoping you'd wait, so we could discuss this. Alas.... --Cultural Freedom 2006-07-17 21:42 (UTC)
