Finding a source

Tips for finding a source yourself
  • Request the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories
Making a request
  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot handle full book scans
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN ISSN, PMID, etc.
  • If you are requesting multiple sources, #number them (1, 2, 3..)
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after 3 months will be moved to the stale requests page

Argyreia nervosa seed constituent articles

I would like the following articles to add more details to the seed constituent section of Argyreia nervosa I've created. Various searches have been to no avail on finding these, and the amount of detail included by other papers citing them is minimal from what I can see.

  • Biswas, B., L. D. Tiwari, and S. Dutt. "Chemical composition of the fixed oil from the seeds of Argyreia speciosa." Indian Soap J 13 (1947): 51-4.
  • Batra, A., and B. K. Mehta. "Chromatographic analysis and antibacterial activity of the seed oil of Argyreia speciosa." Fitoterapia (1985).

Requesting as many reference sources relating to Est, Werner Erhard, and Landmark Education from as many databanks as I can get

One of the outcomes of a recent arbitration case was to try to involve more editors in the articles relating to Est and its successor entities, specifically including Landmark Worldwide. I think one of the best indicators of what sort of content our articles should have would be what other existing reference sources, of any kind, say about the topic. It does broadly fall within the general areas of social movements/sociology, psychology, new religious movements, self-help, and other fields, and any material from the databanks, specifically roughly "encyclopedic" articles relating to any of the topics involved would be more than welcome. Specific titles for such topics which come to mind include Erhard Seminars Training or est, Werner Erhard, Landmark Education/Landmark Worldwide, Landmark Forum, the Human potential movement, and Large group awareness training. The key articles of immediate focus are Werner Erhard, Landmark Education, Werner Erhard and Associates and the other articles in that basic subject area. John Carter (talk) 15:54, 7 January 2015 (UTC)

@John Carter: Please check your mail. - NQ (talk) 20:25, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
Ideally, any content specifically of a reference overview type, encyclopedic or otherwise, which deals as closely with Landmark in its various iterations as possible, or which gives it substantial discussion in reference overviews dealing with related topics would be best, as it would help in determining relative balance and WEIGHT on the topic of Erhard's programs in the main article, which is probably the primary concern here. John Carter (talk) 20:49, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
@John Carter: Aside from a handful of articles that Asyntax has already posted on the talk page of Landmark Worldwide, I could not find much that goes into detail about Landmark Education. There are plenty of articles on the subject of est which primarily covers pre-Landmark era, but I assume that is not what you’re after. I've emailed you an entry for Erhard Seminars Training from Contemporary American Religion, which mentions that "In 1984 est was transformed into The Forum, and in 1991 it became Landmark Education Corporation." Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. If you have a specific resource in mind, do let me know. - NQ (talk) 20:15, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
@NQ: Thank you very much for your efforts. Maybe I should have said I had myself checked pretty much all the reference type sources I could find and didn't find much on these topics myself, but thought that I or Astynax might have missed some. John Carter (talk) 20:25, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Need help finding sources talking about a Malaysian expressway

I'm currently working on North–South Expressway Northern Route, but online secondary sources have been a pain to find. A web search turned up nothing reliable, while a Google Books and Google Scholar search resulted in only one minor publication by the World Bank, which I could only use for one sentence. Searches of local news websites resulted in only accidents and incidents that occurred, which aren't notable. I'm pretty much hanging on the hope that there is a paper source (or some online work that I haven't been able to find) going into detail about the expressway, especially its history. If there is, it would also help a lot with the general North–South Expressway (Malaysia) article as well as North–South Expressway Southern Route, if I do get to it eventually. – Pizza1016 (talk | contribs) 06:36, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Source to create an article on Black Creek (Susquehanna River)

I discovered this (a 1968 USGS open-file report by Thomas Gwyn Newport, Harry E. Koester, Marion Joseph Bergin; the title is "Geology, hydrology, and geochemistry of the Black Creek watershed near Mocanaqua, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania"), which seems like a very useful source for an article on Black Creek. The trouble is that the USGS doesn't have it online, Worldcat says that there are no libraries that have the report, and on amazon.com, it says that "We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock." Hello, I need pages 189-190 of this Ralph Turner book (ISBN 978-0-7524-4850-3) to check a couple of dubious references for the article Magna Carta. As far as my web searches have been able to find, those pages don't exist on google or Amazon. I normally find it helpful for context to get the page before and after the reference, so rather than make two requests, if you can help me with pp 188-191 that would be enormously appreciated. George Tomlinson

Hi. I am trying to expand our article on the British Labour politician George Tomlinson and would like some help with accessing a few sources, namely:

  • Blackburn, Fred (1954). George Tomlinson. London: Heinemann. A full scan is available online for anyone with a library card at the National Library of Australia http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/6351948
  • Dean, D. W. (1986). "Planning for a postwar generation: Ellen Wilkinson and George Tomlinson at the Ministry of Education, 1945–51". History of Education. 15 (2). The History of Education Society: 95–117. doi:10.1080/0046760860150204.
  • The entries on Tomlinson in The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, The Dictionary of Labour Biography, Biographical Dictionary of European Labor Leaders, his obituary published in Times, and anything else that might be of interest. Thanks in advance!

@P. S. Burton: I've emailed you the DNB article. Send me an email and I'll also reply with a PDF of the Times obituary. John M Baker (talk) 17:18, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Thank you very much. P. S. Burton (talk) 16:52, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

@P. S. Burton: I've emailed you the History of Education Society paper. I also have access to the Heinemann monograph. Do you have a list of pages in mind? The book in itself is quite long (around 200 pages) and is 100s of MBs. - NQ (talk) 13:56, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

@NQ: Thank you very much for the article. Much appreciated. I would love to have the whole book, but I understand that that might be hard. Can I get back to you once I beefed up the article with the other sources? By then I should have a better grasp of what I need from the book. P. S. Burton (talk) 19:31, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Senate Subcommittee Report, 1966

I've had a great deal of success requesting old newspaper archives here, so I thought I'd try my luck with something else:

I don't expect this is relevant to the request, but I'm only interested in the Barrington Plaza/Louis Lesser/Ben Deane elements. I can access small portions of it via the Google preview, enough to indicate that this is likely the best source on the Barrington Plaza development out there. Any help appreciated, Bromley86 (talk) 18:51, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

In a similar vein, there's a subsequent report that'd also be useful.

The first is LCCN 67-60280. LeadSongDog come howl! 02:19, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that LeadSongDog. From what I can see, that system only allows hard-copy requests of this item (I'm nowhere near a US library). Which is odd because it's clearly been digitised. Bromley86 (talk) 10:58, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
Something's not right. It was google-digitized last year and is available in snippet view at there, also on HathiTrust at 009990122 and 006215744. I suspect it was incorrectly flagged by the digitizer as being under copyright, though of course it should be PD-USGov. Perhaps someone in a US university environment can access the HathiTrust fulltext record? Otherwise, the hard copy should be in Federal Depository Libraries in the US.LeadSongDog come howl! 19:57, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

@Bromley86: Yes Sent both reports. Apologies for the delay. - NQ (talk) 14:59, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

EBSCOhost link -- Yuccas: 'Ghosts in the Graveyard'

Resolved

I would appreciate a little help from an editor with fulltext access to this newspaper article. I am trying to source an uncited claim I found in the Yucca lead paragraph: "It is also colloquially known in the lower Midwest United States as "ghosts in the graveyard", as it is commonly found growing in rural graveyards and when in bloom the cluster of (usually pale) flowers on a thin stalk appear as floating apparitions." So far this is the only seemingly reliable source I have found for the colloquialism that is not an echo of Misplaced Pages. Does the above source support both claims (nickname and reason for nickname) in that sentence and is this newspaper/article/author considered a WP:RS ? Thank you. --104.32.193.6 (talk) 16:53, 28 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi, the article appears in the January 18, 2012 issue of the Hays Free Press. You can view the full article here. - Another more evocative name for them is 'ghosts in the graveyard.' This comes from the high number of yuccas growing wild in forgotten graveyards, where their large white flower clusters appear as 'ghosts' in the moonlight. - NQ (talk) 14:14, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Thanks NQ. It is tenuous to claim the entire "lower Midwest" region from that citation but the paper is *in* the Midwest (Texas) so the claim is technically correct. There is no way to say yay or nay that the colloquialism is used anywhere but where the author heard it. I will update the article with your provided citation. Thanks again. 104.32.193.6 (talk) 16:04, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
BTW, I think the STP Archive is a very interesting resource, I appreciate you introducing me to it. 104.32.193.6 (talk) 16:04, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

To put an end to a discussion going on for a while on the article on Daisaku Ikeda I would like to know if this quote can be found in the above mentioned work or in an interview by Murata: “Ikeda, who admitted to hitting the priest "once or twice" later referred to the incident as an "act of kindness" because "the old priest, made to realize his apostasy, was grateful to Toda and Soka Gakkai and died a happy man."” --Catflap08 (talk) 11:31, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi Catflap08, here is the relevant text: -
Recalling this incident in an interview with this author in July 1956,Toda admitted hitting the priest "twice" and said that this was the cause of the extremely unfavorable press his organization then received-which labeled Soka Gakkai as a "violent religion".............In a pamphlet issued in May 1955, Ogasawara similarly "repented" his "indiscretion in having had the unfortunate conflict with Soka gakkai." Ikeda, who led the four thousand young men to mob Ogasawara, says now that the incident was an act of kindness because the old priest, made to realize his apostasy, was grateful to Toda and Soka gakkai and died a happy man.

Finding a quote of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Egyptian president on 1967, in Heykal's book

Will it be possible to find a quote of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the Egyptian president on 1967, in Heykal's book: Sphinx and commissar: the rise and fall of Soviet influence in the Arab world ?

- The quote is found in the hebrew version of Gluska's The Israeli Military and the Origins of the 1967 War, p. 235. My translation is: "Nasser canceled at the last minute a planned Egyptian attack, and later accused the soviets: "you stopped us and have not allowed us to be the first to attack. You have not let us having the initiative. That was a collusion."

- Gluska cites Heykal's book: Sphinx and commissar: the rise and fall of Soviet influence in the Arab world, the Hebrew version, p. 181, 182.
