Hello! I'm a Persian Wikipedian and I wanna build a robot, but I like to build a one in English Misplaced Pages. So Can you help to make a bot step by step??? Thanks a lot! --MehranVB 17:07, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

What is the language code of persian wikipedia? I can modify my bot with a few commands to monitor persian wikipedia. --Cat out 22:15, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
The code of persian wikipedia is fa. But my mind is having a robot for myself. (In other words I wanna build a new robot, but I don't know how??? I downloaded the Python but what's the next step???)

Thanks a lot!--MehranVB 08:11, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

I know little about phython, but per your request I have modified my bot to moitor Persian wikipedia for vandalism.
You can use the bot on #wikipedia-fa-vandalism on irc.freenode.net
If you need any other help, I'll be more than willing to assist.
--Cat out 22:32, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
My recomendation (not sure if it is the best but it is what I did) is to take a look at Pywikipedia framework, depending on what you want your bot to do, take one of the prebuilt bots, like replace which I used and change it bit by bit to do what you want it to do. When looking in the code you can find out how it works and find the place that does the actual regexp replace, that is the place you should change to do you code. Have a look and come back with more questions if you need. Stefan 23:50, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
There is no simple step by step instruction, please give some info on what you want your bot to do. Have you downloaded Pywikipedia framework, can you run it? do a replace on your user page. Stefan 00:11, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Step by step.
  • Down load pywikipedia framework
  • learn how to run e.g. replace.py, continue to follow the instruction at
  • Then read the source code of replay.py, try to understand it, find the place where the replay is done, implement your own fixed replace
  • if you do not know python, try to learn it, there are lots of tutorials on the internet, search
  • Implement your own bot (can maybe give better example if you state what you intend your bot to do)
Stefan 11:31, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
Not sure why you can not download, I get to a page http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pywikipediabot/snapshot-20060312.zip?use_mirror=ovh where I can choose download link, when I click I get the save dialogue. If you do not get that then something else is wrong, I do not know what. Maybe the mirror is blocked, try another, maybe it is down, try another, maybe you have wrong settings in IE, try firefox, sorry I do not know. And again, what do you want your bot to do? remeber to ask permission before you run it. Stefan 14:22, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
No need to bother about CVS, since you say you want to do replace, use the replace.py to do that. read on from Preparation part in the page you mention. There are bots that do redirect, interwiki, category and replay so you probably do not need to do any development, just run the respective bots. Good luck. Stefan 00:26, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Fair use images and user page

Hi MehranVB, you have a couple of images under "fair use" displayed on your user page (all of them, except the Bill Gates one). Unfortunately, such images can only be used in a very limited way (in a nutshell: only to illustrate articles that are related to the images, but with some more restrictions). Fair use images are explicitely forbidden on a user page (see the relevant policy, point 9); however, you can link to them using the following syntax: ]. Do you think you could do this change ? Schutz 13:22, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

You probably noticed that I took the liberty to do these changes. Schutz 10:50, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Robot

Hi. If you would like to run a bot, you must first post your request to WP:BRFA, members of the bot approvals group will then review your request, and let you know if the bot will not harm Misplaced Pages, and will allow a trial run. Please post a request before running the bot. Thanks. --lightdarkness 13:27, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Payment-System-in-Iran.jpg

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Payment-System-in-Iran.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Misplaced Pages (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Rebelguys2 21:29, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:DJ Gigi.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DJ Gigi.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Misplaced Pages because of copyright law (see Misplaced Pages's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Misplaced Pages are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Misplaced Pages:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Hetar 07:18, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

When are we Going to See Proof that Azaris are Genetically Turkic

Please keep an eye on Azari and the talk:Azari. I have started the following in the discussion.

It has been ages since these citations have not been verified. Verification is needed. If not delete the material. the amount of time granted has been generious. The Azaris Iranian background has been verified through various scientific and academic sources, but the Turkic claim has not. The only think that has been verified is the Turkic langauge. 72.57.230.179
